OK any of you Suzuki boffins got issue 155 of streetfighters??

I have posted yesterday about a mate scoring a GSX1100 and his wanting to modernise the running gear.

I have sourced a wheel and back brake setup for the rear from devo and was all set to grab Benz's 750 forks and trees.

I then got some helpful advice from Ed the fella who has a GSX project going on the forum and he advised that the 750 forks are too short and require a stepped set of triples to work but the 1100's work fine as they are longer. He seems like a pretty knowledgable bloke and i thought that is fine.

I then had a look at the GSX1100 in #155 and it says in the specs it has 750 forks and the trees are not stepped.

The reason for this epic is to see if you gixxer blokes can take a look and tell me if:

A: they are in fact standard 750 forks
B: they are 750 forks that look like they have been lenghtened
c: they are 1100 forks and its simply an error in the mag.

I know its a bit tough with just a pic but if anyone can shed some light i would appreciate it as Benz's forks would be a good option rather than trying to find 1100's.

The defence rests...............PHEW!

Have you seen this one?

It's from issue 137, and it's an ET model.

Can post other pictures if you want

so what if the forks are shorter lol...

just speeds the turn in a lot more, put 30mm shorter forks on my sv.. havent regretted it, absolutley love the rate it turns in now, sure i get the occasional head shake, but nothing worth commenting about really.

cheers.joe.

Yeah, but the SV has a narrow V-Twin motor, the GSX's are wider than the butt on a 20 stone woman. :D

Shit i am in the process of doing an identical white stripe on my blade as that GSX. The thieving prick!!

It looks good chalky.

I just need to confirm if the 750 forks will bolt on and not scrape on every roundabout and gentle curve.

fuck that was a nice bike

Yeah, one of the best examples of Old Skool fighters I've ever seen, but then I might be a bit biased, it is an ET after all

I wouldn't want to go any shorter than say -15mm from stock on the GSX or Kat (or whatever it turns out to be) Nath, the GSX lump is a heavy fucker & tilting the whole mess too far forward by running too short forks - or too long shocks for that matter - will put a lot of extra weight on the front wheel, sure the turn in will be ultra sharp but stability will be seriously compromised (& believe me, you don't want a tankslapper on a GSX 11 [xx(])

I agree TK, i think i will just take Ed's word for it and steer clear of the 750 forks.

It was just the streetfighters bike that threw me.

It would have been perfect to be able to use the 750's as i dunno how long finding 1100's will take. It doesnt even need to be USD'S i just need a modern set of forks that will work. Preferably Suzuki as they will bolt straight on. Might have to find a manual to get the fork lengths as the ones on the bike are sagging due to no brake fluid in the front brake system.

Just out of curiosity can anyone tell me the difference in length between gixxer 750 forks and 1100 forks??

Any chance one of the GFX Guru's, Gix Large etc, can zip these together, and re-size.

That ET is an all-time favourite of mine - build by my neighbour & good friend, and now owned by a bloke just 12 miles up the road...
As far as archive pics, well, we had a fire in the building where our archive material is kept about 6 months ago, and everything was lost...:( That was ALL the SF archive up in flames...

Cheers

For real? Accidental, or deliberate by some "every issue owning" madman looking to cash in? Is that all old mag issue left over stock and photo cds?

MDM
14-02-2007, 05:57 AM
Well, it was supposedly accidental, but the archive warehouse also had finaicial records and such like being held for a company that were being investigated by the police... it burnt for about 36 hours... our archive stuff was photographic transparencies and digital media...

Look out. Did they get investigated a little more after this by any chance?

Righto decision made. Buying the 750 forks off benz. Once we get the triples and forks bolted up we can assess if its too low and sort it out from there.

And just how good is ASF????? Sourced a gixxer rear rim with 90% tyre and rear disk, rear caliper , caliper hanger and torque arm, Gixxer 750 USD forks and triples, front gixxer discs, front calipers with braided lines attached, front gixxer rim , brand new front tyre.

Grand total..............................$1110 !

And this is all going on a GSX1100 that is now running fine , and was bought for $200 4 days ago.

And he is supposed to be a mate. i should push the lucky prick off the Newy lighthouse.
