Yeah, cheesy title but meh!

Yesterday we changed the fork seals on the R1 front end on my fighter. We'd found and fixed the bodge job on the discs last year and then this added to the catalogue of things fucking me off right now. The inside of the left fork leg wasn't connected up at all, so wasn't doing its job. Also there were two nicks on the stanchion that we rubbed down to make less proud. We had hoped that the seals would be ok. Didn't even make it home before it blew again. :(:(:(

So I need a R1 stanchion to replace the damaged one. Thing is, they got for £200 on ebay, the crashed ones start at £50 ... so I'm now thinking why don't I just change the front end?

SO question is: what forks will fit the existing yokes and wheel? (R1 98/00)

Also has anyone else had a problem setting up their Koso RX2N digital speedo? 4 people have had a go at it and failed - fucking thing.

If there R1 yokes NoZ, than all R1 Forks from 98-06 will fit, 98-01 R1 forks are identical and 02/03 are also the same just 10-15mm shorter.. all take the axial mounted brakes.. 98-03 wheels all interchange, but in order to fit 98-01 wheel on 02/03 forks you need 02/03 axle and fender as there slightly dif then 98-01.. the 04-06 forks have radial brakes and i'm not sure bout wheel fitment there. Because the R1 yokes have 50mm upper and 54mm lower, Lots of model Gixer forks will slot straight in you'll just have to get some spacers machined to suit your wheel and rotors etc.. does all that make sense.. Bummer a week ago I sold my 00 R1 forks, I would have sent them to you for price of post... bugger. although there is quite a few sets on UK Ebay

Cheers Gitzy. I had a look at those on ebay already, the cheaper ones are crash damaged and I can't afford £200 for the others. Might be an idea using gixer ones.. but how much messing about with the wheel would i have?

Awww I couldnt tell you exactly... but you can make anything fit anything I reckon.. I got a bunch of spacers made up in order for the front 96 B12 wheel and rotors to fit an 05 Gixer 750 setup.. Once I had the bearings sorted to suit axle and found out all the measurements it was a breeze.. and these same forks have the 50/54mm triple measurements of the R1 so they are a possibility for you to use aswell..

I put 01 1k gix forks ,wheel and brakes on my 01 r1 when it was leaking brake fluid out the brakes caused by a long term fork seal leak , the gix forks went straight into the r1 tripples, think i put a washer on each end of the axle and same with the brake calipers

I got a pair of R1 forks off ebay for £110. Might have a go at fitting them myself before the wembley show. Reckon I can do it after watching it done a few times. So looks like I'm going to be busy this week!

They arrived today, bloke doesn't win prizes for wrapping them up very well. The ends are open and I can see the forks. Not only that but I just turned them up to see the other end of the package and all I could hear is liquid rushing thru like one of those rain sticks. Now I'm fairly sure that when I took mine off the other day, they didn't sound like that! Suppose i better open the package and check them... I have a feeling it's all going to go horribly wrong AGAIN!

Lol.. not to worry Evil Auntie Nay Nay, all my forks have sounded like that when I've received them.. sit them upright for a while and all will be good, I haven't had any issues yet with transported forks (on my 4th set) as long as seals are in tip top shape, so you should be in luck... Need pics of YOU fitting them Miss not your man ;)

I don't have a man anymore Gitzy. Anways, I helped Stig change the seals on the current ones and broke down the front end and I'm 99% confident that I can do this on my own - just need to get it on the stand first, so might get my mate round to make sure I do it properly.
