Thinking of making a period 5 racer out of it or maybe just a really nice road bike. Going to try and fit a GSX 1400 rear swinger with 6'wheel if it will fit and then go from there.

its not a bad starting point for a project, the motor runs real nice and the bike is all original, picked it up for $1,500. Just not sure if a 6" will fit in the rear with the new swinger. Might be an issue with off setting the front sprocket

not sure what others think but I think its cheap. I've been looking for a GSX, CB750, GS1000 for a while now and this one seemed like a bargin compared to the asking prices of some pretty bad old bikes out there. Period 5 has made these things very hard to get and they seem to have a good following these days and interest is only getting stronger. I'll end up spending a fortune on it but I want to complete a FULL resto with some little mods and go fast bits fitted. My Bandit was my first attempt at any kind of bike build and I was pretty happy with the results, but the bandit wasn't a full build, only partly modded.

Lol if the Bandit was "partly modded" I can't wait to see the results of this.. Beautiful bike Moz.

Top score there Moz, I'm liking your plan. Chain/wheel alignment could be a bit of a bitch. I'm running a 9mm (near enough to 3/8") offset sprocket to run a 530 pitch chain with a 160/60 tyre on my ET, I had to buzz back the inside of the frame/ foot peg mounting holes to get clearance. Granted my sprocket carrier has not been machined down to pull it closer in to the tyre. Have seen one done with a 200mm tyre, they actually cut and spaced the left side of the frame to clear everything. You will also have to buzz the cover where the chain runs.

Some pics for you,
You can see how close it runs to the frame.

Thanks for the pics. AFAM do a 13mm offset front sprocket for the Katana, I assume this would also be ok for my year GSX 1100 ?

Not sure, Just had a look on yamahaoftroy.com they run the same swingarm pivot spacer but a different swingarm part number so maybe there will be enough room. I have seen 5/8" offset sprockets out there. They must run really tight.
