Is there a thread somewhere around here that gives a general outline about swapping front ends? I thought I had seen one but not sure where.
The reason I ask is because i've been offered another VTR1000 very cheap. It hit a car at low speed and fucked the fairings (but i've got some awesome custom ones in the shed) and bent the forks, but that's about it.

What are you swapping? VTR to VTR? Or do you mean you're gonna buy this new damaged bike and add a USD front end? If that's the case look for another Honda USD set up. Maybe a CBR1000? Somewhere there is a chart on fork lengths - if they're the about the same length you may even find they are the same stem - i.e., straight swap. If not, just get your stem pressed out of the existing bottom clamp and then get it pressed into the new bottom clamp. Piece of piss. You will need the entire front end for this amount of ease though (including front wheel brakes and discs etc, or else you then have some more considerations).

The principal is easy but check all aspects, starting at the stem (O/D length, clamp clearance - same brand bikes are usually the easiest transfer).

Thanks Si. I was thinking maybe 954 forks (or similar) to VTR. Got a price for VTR fork upper legs, tiples and a few other bits thrown in for $500. At that price I thought it might be better to go with an USD conversion.
Havent bought the bike yet, just trying to weigh up the options.

Don't quote me on it, but a 954 triple/tubes with cbr100rr front wheel seems to be a bolt on fit. Have a look at http://superhawkforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=214272&postcount=130
