Hi all,

Also known to some as mrs freak (married to 80s freak), have met quite a few of you at various functions & AFR 2010. I was the lucky lady who had 10 ASF members show up to my wedding as a guard of honour last year :)

Thanks to being exposed to the hubby (put those dirty thoughts out of your heads!) & his bikes & Streetfighter magazines, I finally broke a 20 year old promise to my mum (long story) and just got myself a bike, a 1981 GS 450. Time to roll up my sleeves & get stuck into it...so many ideas, so little money! Also so little experience, this build is going to be an apprenticeship of sorts. Then all I'll have to do is actually learn to ride & get my learners permit lol.

Cheers guys.

Thanks guys. After meeting Jacktar, I knew even a Frankston lass like myself would be allowed onboard. Will get some pics of the old bike & the start of the build up soon. I've already learned which end of the screwdriver goes where lol

Appreciated you all coming on our wedding day Wacky, wish I had had time to check out all the bikes properly on the day. Although i was pretty disappointed to only find a single burn-out skid in the driveway when I got home. I left permission for people to leave rubber wherever they wanted and then you all behaved yourselves...bloody disgraceful!!

Don't use left handed screwdrivers on right hand screws ... they don't work.

Hi Anthea, welcome aboard. Best get Geoff to working on your bike. He doesn't really need time to play with Mr Turbo anyhow. :D;)[:p]

Hi Stu, the work done on my bike is all me, with Geoff's guidance. It's what I wanted & he's more than happy with it. Luckily he's a patient teacher since I have zero mechanical aptitude! Actually really enjoying myself getting it ready for roadworthy, it's very satisfying. Fired up beautifuuly on Thursday after I had pulled apart, cleaned & reassembled the carbs., then balanced the carbs & tuned it. Geoff burst out laughing when I got to rev it for the first time, apparently I had the fat-kid-in-a-cake-shop expression happening lol.
p.s. Loved the pic of your little corgi, she's adorable with those huge ears

That's awesome, my wife struggles to wash the car so you are way ahead.
Remind Geoff about facial expressions when he has the Turbo fitted and ready to roll cause I reckon he'll do a good fat-kid-at-the-all-you-can-eat-bar when he fires it up:D;)

I see great things for that bike and your gonna look the goods on it!!

Shiny Things

Kato, there are some ambitious plans but mostly the original body lines will be kept...a couple of custom trays to get rid of the old light clusters & remount the battery somewhere hidden, a small digital dash, new headlights (told Geoff what I wanted & he pulled one out from the shed, awesome!!), bugger off the airbox in favour of pod filters & a change to USD forks & maybe a banana swing arm & a good short, noisy can will tidy Mike up quite nicely.(Yep, his name is Mike for reasons that will become apparent when he finally gets around to having his new paint applied). Within half an hour of seeing him, he was already zooming around in my head in his final incarnation. Now I just have to help him emerge from the cocoon :)
