Painted them with Gold Caliper paint to get an even finish all over
Then went for a ride and used the brakes - it then leaves a clean line where the brake pads are but a nice even line above and below the pads.

This photo was taken as I wheeled it out of the shed after its rebuild

Has the paint not clogged the pads themselves? Are you getting proper braking now or has it left a coat on the pads? Just curious.

Nice looking Kat by the way. Simple and clean.

The paint has not clogged the pads as it was not a thick coat
The brakes work really well, 100% better then the original lumps of wood !

The guages are a bit of a mystery. It has a red warning light which I have never seen come on. It has some Japanese writing around the red light which I have not been able to translate. The Bike was imported from Japan, but the speedo is dominant in MPH which does not make sense as Japan uses Kph.

The front end (forks) are from a GSXR - K model 43mm including the top triple but I modified it slightly to fit the original gauges and the Franks Clipons.

Since taking these photos ther have been some minor mods, I have installed a Bandit swingarm with a 5.5 inch wheel and a 180 tyre. Difficult modification when keeping the rear footpeg mounts as there is not a lot of room in there, but well worth the extra you gain in handling

PS - My daughter who can speak Japanese assures me that the Japanese writing by the Red light says
"To ensure saftey give your daughter $100" I of course have my doubts about this

lol at jap stuff being a mystery.

A few years ago, the biggest motoring status symbol you could have in Tokyo was a left hand drive Rolls Royce or Bentley

As for the red light...all jap cars and bikes have one by law. Buses and trains have bigger versions visible from miles away.

It turns on when the whaling fleet is nearly home.

from http://www.katanacentral.co.uk/themodels/gsx750s/background.asp

Ex Japan - Detuned from the standard GSX750ES, due to Japanese 750cc bhp limit, so only puts out about 70 bhp. You can tell these due to the Japanese warning light that illuminates if you go over 50 mph, replaced by a side stand warning light on non Japanese model. Suzuki UK imported approx. 75 of these as a special import.

This Black Kat is a 1984 1100cc (Think I forgot to mention that)
It has not been de-tuned though as it puts out 110hp at the rear wheel

The original paint work for this bike is actually on my 750 which there are a few photos of on this site. After seeing a few pictures of the Black Yoshimura 1135 - I just wanted to build myself a Black Kat.

But because the Paint job was so good and a bit unique I went and bought a 750 and then painted all the panel work to suit. I got a GSXR 1100 front end to keep with the conventional look of the forks.
