"I'm pretty sure my next bike isnt going to be a fighter or big bore jap bike. I like to go fast but i cant afford to now. So its either a track bike or something a little more sedate for the road as i do like going for a cruise at times"

its a quote from weasels post in the cops in bushes thread
anyway i have very good memories of punting an old srx 250 down the spur ,havin a ball at almost legal speeds
so my question is ,
whats the best bike to cane ,have fun ,and keep ur brief?

I've been thinking similar thoughts since reading that and that other post about "the pace" or whatever it was. Thinking very seriously about tarding my KTM 360 2T and bailing on my SRAD. Damn, I love that thing though. Decisions decisions...

Motards and licence in the same sentence [:p] usually involves a conversation about losing the privilege or getting all your points removed in one day :(

They are fun though :D

you can still speed on a 250, and you will get booked (trust me...)
thats more an issue of self-control (or lack there-of)
although in nsw you could register 2 250's for less than one 1000cc bike :(

i think a more valid point may be that an unmodified motorcycle will attracted less defect notices etc
hence me commuting on the katana lately :D

Fimp raises a good point. They only go as fast as you turn the throttle.

I get what you're saying Rob.

I'm trying to get more in to the technical side of riding rather than going fast lately though, and I reckon a tard is a lot more forgiving than my fighter. I don't know if I'm ready to pull the pin on it yet though. I still love riding that bitch. :)

Yes and on a nice bit of tar you tend to twist as far as you can no matter how 'restrained' you might think you are

thats what i liked about the srx ,it took all day to get to 100kmph so i would put a lot more effort into keeping any speed id managed to build up and that was fun

Even a 100cc scooter will break speed limits. Infact I dare say that on a lower capacity bike you're tempted to wind it out and find it's max speed...which is when a'government fund raising represtative' happens to step out of the bushes:(
I like the idea of a rs125, mito, or nsr150 though... but I don't recon I could keep my hands from modding it...
Maybe a small capacity road/trail with motard wheels?

Fimp chimed in before I got to say it: Just buy a stock XJR1300 (or similar) and enjoy a smooth powerfull ride.

Self control is what you need. If a speeding fine isn't enough of a deterrent then a smaller capacity bike won't be either.

I lost my licence for 58 (apparently) over on a KLR-250......As for the motard route they are just so much fucking fun
