This is one of the two windows that came with my clutch cover.

When i fitted the window in the cover, it was a firm (but not tight)fit so I think maybe as the cover expanded with heat, the window got compressed and fractured like this.

I sanded back the outside edge of the second spare window before I fitted it so it was a looser fit, hopefully that will solve the problem. So far so good.

I assume it wasn't heat that cracked it, otherwise others would have had the same problem.

What do youse reckon ?

Got any more ?

Did you wipe the window down with wax & grease remover or metho??
You can get this kind of cracking from a reaction with these products
although usually when the edges have been flame polished.

I used a couple of polishes on it and then Mr Sheened it before fitting.
There is some sort of stain on the the window though so I may have given it a wipe with something else at the time.

The second one got wiped over with Mr Sheen and that's it. So i'll see what happens with it.

got plenty of widows left mate. happy to send them to you.

how tight are you doing up the bolts. they don;t need alot.

nobody else has had any issues that i no of.

the cover in my bike is the original and first polycarb window that i made and i havn't had any issues. the heat will expand the poly carb but the clamping screws i believe hold the window with alot of force. i notice on my window it has convexed slightly in the centre but is perfertly straight around the outer where it is clamped by the outer ring.

when i got the windows cut with the waterjet i gave the cutters a file from my drawings. what they failed to tell me is that the waterjet will no cut vertical. all the windows acutally came to me not fitting the alloy body. i got mhyself a flap wheel in a 4" grinder and took off a small amount around the outside dia.

Maybe i didn't take enough of that particular window. i did check each window in an insert before sending them out. I have got more polycarb windows been cut at the moment that are 1mm smaller in OD so that i don't have to midify the OD.

i can send you a couple of those.

let me no what you want to do.

Thanks Deano,
I did do the bolts up pretty firm but not super tight.
I will check it and maybe back them all off and retighten them. My cover is chromed but I imagine chrome is measured in microns so i doubt that has affected the I.D. of the cover enough for that to be a problem.
A couple more windows would be great, even if just for peace of mind.
Let me know the cost mate.

Oh yeah Deano, that window is the shit !!
Heaps of people comment on it and it's my favourite custom bit on the bike.
Fucken tops.

Just in case anyone is interested, there's a guy on the Gold Coast i know who can lazer cut the windows without drama as he has done me a few as a demo. He can also etch anyhting into the window without damaging the integrity and also get hold of coloured perspex.

anything is possible mate. is it a cable or hyd clutch?

is there anything on the inside of the clutch cover casting that would stop the workings on the clutch if it was cut out?
