hey booster i have a couple of blokes going from work, they're on a research mission to find out all they can for there respective bikes they are building. looks like this year will be a good one to go to as apparently its has been ultra dry out there and american hotrod are running a vehicle which means more overseas entrants = more faster cars and bikes!!! what do you run out there?

Booster
30-01-2007, 10:49 AM
Ultra dry changed quickly to deep water last week, but it looks like the lake will be dry again in time, biggest problem is access as the road in (160kms) is cut by waterflow and has trees washed across it.
may be an adventure getting in :)
I run a turbo Busa ,
Supposed to be 4 guys driving the hotrod car, it has run over 200mph at several events , i think there aiming to have 5 200 mph titles by running here.
Tell your workmates to drop in for a chat, Red Busa number 379

Hey Booster, ive never been but hope to go one year as a spectator.

Thought you might like this little website.

http://www.freewebs.com/hawkwindracing/hayabusa.htm

Was following it for a few years as he was building a nitrous streamlined kwaka, nothing there about it anymore but there is a pretty ambitious busa project (300mph[:0]).

Hawkwind is making a big effort this year
http://p083.ezboard.com/Hawkwinds-LSR-build-/faustralianhayabusaclubfrm4.showMessage?topicID=28 9.topic

Headers and plenum i made , Hawkwind has done the rest himself, i was blown away by the way he cut and accurately rewelded his frame.
Can't wait to see it run, first year he ran the nos busa he hit the gas at 175mph and left a trail of salt behind that looked like the spray from a hydroplane boat at full noise [:p]

If your into cars and bikes nothing beats a fast vehicle emerging from the mirage sounding great at full noise then dissapearing back into the distance with the song of an engine continuing long after the vehicle has gone .:D

A mate and I went last year, flew over, hired a car thrashed it for 4 days and then back again.

Was awesome being there to watching Booster and everyone doing there thing on the Salt Dyno. Only one down side, trials didnt get under way for a couple of days due to a wet track and a problem with timing gear. If you are in to fast modified machinery well worth a look.

A few photos from our trip

Hire car on the 150klm Dirt Road to Camp, another 15 to the Salt.

dont be fooled by the 102 mph as the general rule of thumb is that if you expected to do a specific speed your 1st time there half it and you will be in the ball park!! its not the same as the road ie no traction at 200mph hence boosters big lead plates. i want be there this year but for sure next time round

Booster
03-02-2007, 11:29 AM
Its the one form of racing where weight is your friend.
I carry 120kg of lead in and on the bike, traction is similar to a hard packed dirt road on a big trailbike, you can gas it and induce wheelspin or feed it in and go fast.

WATEVR
19-02-2007, 10:02 PM
booster have you heard much about the water up there at the mo. from what i hear there workn double time to cut the road into the salt?? a few guys in adelaide not sure about going, long trip to have it cancelled onya!
pics on the dlra site had heaps of water on the salt not to long ago, bloody amazing really!

Booster
20-02-2007, 07:34 AM
Mostly the same stuff as the DLRA website, i believe the road in is now open to 2wd and i expect the salt would be just about dry now .
Just hope there are no more storms out there.

Definately a small world Scotty, didnt think anyone would know Ronnie from here, goes to show.

His bike is pretty sweet, well engineered, super tidy and he made it into the 200MPH club I believe last year!

Timeless design that, one of the classics that stands out in all but the most exclusive crowds.

We had a rash of them being sold around here a couple of years ago, at good prices too. Really regret not grabbing one of them.

Thanks Abusa.

booster bloody shame about the cancelation of this years event?did it leave out of pocket much? could only imagine the dissapointment of getting something ready all year to be told at literally the last minute that it aint happening? but what do you do you cant control the weather.....

Booster
12-03-2007, 08:58 AM
Yeah i was one of the lucky ones, found i had to replace my crankshaft & bearings the week earlier , made me a day later than i would have been and i heard before leaving.
The guys that got to the lake still had a good pissup and did a lot of bench racing.
Be worse for the Yanks, huge cost for nothing.
There's talk about a trip to Bonneville , if we can get 6-8 bikes to share the container cost, and look to get in 2 events over 3 weeks.

Bugger me - I just had a second look to notice the turbo GS has no front brakes. That must be fun.......;)

Booster
26-03-2007, 11:02 PM
Ha Ha yeah , don't want to lockup the front , and there's nothing to hit, i took mine off one time but its a pain getting on and off trailers, keep grabbing for a nonexistant lever.
