So now i've got weasel's 7/11 (that half the guys here seem to have owned at some point ;P).. i've got a couple questions..

What's the easiest USD forks to fit? Can I get something like these: http://goo.gl/2BZx or http://goo.gl/nO5R and adapt them to suit with the stock triples, or do I need particular year models, custom clamps etc?

Also, i've seen how some of you guys put car wheels on the VFR swinger.. what do I need to look for as far as size, offset?

Pretty keen to swap the entire front end off for USDs, flat bars, new levers/reservoirs/switchgear/dash/light, etc, and throw a car wheel on it, then see where it goes from there..

All help appreciated!

Heya sen, front end conversions are usually fairly straight forward.. there usually just a stem swap and some spacers, and you usually can pick any front end you want.. Either of them front ends of ebay would be perfect mate, its all about how much coin you want to spend..

heres my conversion on the bandit.

and deanos on his gixer.
http://www.streetfighters.com.au/ASF_HT_k-front.asp

heres the info on the car wheel from CBRRRT, 16 pages very detailed, plus you can ask him questions
if need be, Jons a champ

also robmac is selling his old car wheel with 210 tyre freshly powdered. $300 plus postage.
you'd be mad (or ghey like vfighter) not to buy it..

Thanks for the links! Time to go shopping for front ends :)

I saw that wheel for sale and am very tempted, but I think I want something a bit different.. was thinking something like the pic below.. the 5 spoke ones just look too similar to the stock one for me.. dunno, still playing with ideas.

Really digging the lots-of-spokes look, like this:

So shopping list is:

- 17x7" 4x100 car wheel, any offset (yeah?), then spacer to suit + longer bolts etc.
- Any late model GSX-R front end, but will need to do some spacers/mods for the stem.
- All the associated goodies like dash, levers, reservoirs, etc.

If I get a complete late model front, with wheel/brakes/the works, is there any conflict with stuff hooking up as far as brakes/switch-gear/levers go? Could I pretty much bolt an entire 05-09 GSX-R600/750/1000 front end on, and off I go? (with the stem sorted, of course)..

Happy to spend the cash to make it all "good", just don't want to fork out for it then realise that particular one has brakes that are different, or switchgear that doesn't wire up, or something.

Usually 600/750 are the same dimensions, year depending, and 1000's mostly have there own dimensions, offset, axle etc in comparison to 600/750, most radial calipers on Gixers have 108mm mounting hole spacing as do most 4 pot radial R1s so you can interchange them if you like look of r1s better.. here is a chart but it only goes up to K7 gixer thou. you'll find a lot of the fork tubes from different years on gixers are a different shade of gold, some you'll like some you won't.. if your credit card is burning to be spent, you'l' have all your parts wrapped up in no time..

Ah ok, i'm getting it now. I'm a bit slow with all this stuff.

So if I get any K series GSX-R 600/750 front end, it should be pretty straight forward. Either machine out the stem on the frame, or follow the guide linked above to get it to fit..

Seems to be a shit-tonne of front ends on eBay US but none locally.. so i'll shop around see if I can find something at a wrecker otherwise get one shipped over.

Dont be scared bout ebay.. I've bought gixer and r1 front ends from US with no dramas at all..

Not All K series sport same front end.. eg (some of this info I could be wrong on)
Gixer Thou/750 K1 - K3 have Axial brakes
Gixer Thou/750 K4 - K10 have Radial brakes

Gixer 600 K1 - K3 have RWU forks

plus they almost always have different spring rates etc, do your homework and if you cant find complete front end
you can buy separate parts..

My particular conversion has 5 donor bikes and they varied between 04 and 05 600's and 750's

These are what the 5 bikes gave me:

1. forks
2. calipers
3. axle
4. top yoke
5. bottom yoke..

thats what where all here for mate, so if you need any dimensions etc i'm sure between all of us we can muster up specs for you if need be..

Thanks for all the help as usual :)

I'll start hunting down bits and no doubt there'll be "will this fit?" questions in this thread soon..

Hey Gitzy, '05 GSX-R600 forks are ok yeah? Think I may have found some minus top triple and wheel.

Heya Sen.. yeah i think there fine, I used 05 GSXR 600 forks in my conversion mate, couple of things though.. not sure on your stock fork length, but the 05 forks compared to stock bandit dropped the front 45mm, dramatically changing the steering.. its been done thought plenty of times around the world and i havent heard any complaints, someone else may have feedback on this though.. also the spring rate in stock 05 600/750 foks is 0.85 kgs as you can see in the pics, with me on and off the bike they could do with a set of 0.95 or even 1.0kg springs to stiffen it up a little.. a set of k-tech springs of ebay are around $140 aus delivered..

alternatively EXBEN does make top yokes to accomodate the drop in height allowing you to sit the forks lower in the tree to compensate it.. plus they look horn..

Hrm ok thanks..

I did talk to Exben about helping me out with getting this all fitted up.. he recommended GSX-R1000 forks, which is my first choice, just saw these 600 ones going heaps cheap so was wondering if I could get away with it.

Weaker/shorter forks is the last thing I need since i'm not exactly a small dude :P So maybe i'll keep hunting for 1000 forks.

Check out the chart and all the dimensions, the difference between 600/750/1000 is all but the same.. almost identical dimensions between them all..

Sorry, I never was good at numbers ;)

I re-read it though and tried to get my brain to switch on.. and they're close enough, so should be fine I reckon. Worst case, as you said, there's workarounds.. and the price difference between these and bringing them in from the US makes it worth it.

get hold of some usd clamps off a 750 slingy.no fucking around with the upper bearing.then you can bolt on a tl or busa front end. Fork centres are the same at 214mm.
