I dropped it in last week the day before he left (timing ?) but good things are worth waiting for
this is gonna be good
toadboy did you see a TL there, dave was rewelding bits onto the frame the day before he left
I can handle pain until it hurts.
in!
Rev the fucker!!!!!
Mate, I am sure I saw one in there with exposed frame, but to absolutely honest I am blown away these days with all the different frames, suspension, tank, tail etc choices that are out there for bikes and sometimes don't know what I'm looking at.
He was flat strap on the phone most of the time but when I had chance to have a yarn he was great to talk to and sure knew his stuff - spotted a couple of bends in my frame by eye that I couldn't see til he put a straight edge on.
this thread needs pics
Glenn Eason drinks and smokes and lends his arse to other blokes
so whats the "rules"?
can i start gaffa-taping bling on?
Rev the fucker!!!!!
its got to be registered at the end of the build fimp, i think from there go for your life
I can handle pain until it hurts.
I'm out.
Can't afford 4 registered bikes
just redid the rego online HURRAH FOR ME WINNER SO FAR :P
Rev the fucker!!!!!
Nah, doesn't hafta be registered, just needs to be running & rideable.
Don't you have the 'Club Permit Scheme' in NSW Large?
now ya tell me?!?!
Rev the fucker!!!!!
You're still winning Fimpster... in more ways than one
OK, I finally got the majority of the bits I'm using sorted out.
Time permitting, I will be putting 2 Katanas together
The first one will be made from all this lot & will be used on Dragstrips, rides without too many corners, getting the groceries, keeping up with Deano & Latheboy & cruising/posing/pulling chicks around St. Kilda, Lygon St, Chapel St etc. Despite the long wheelbase it will handle & stop reasonably well because I don't want to hafta think too hard if I come to a bend.
Specs;
'81 750 frame - shortened subframe, pillion bars removed, custom rearsets, some strategic bracing.
'83 1100 (black) engine - internally standard until I blow it up (shouldn't take long).
Hahn Racecraft draw through Rajay turbo kit
Mikuni HSR42 carb with Facet 3-4 psi pump
NOS nitrous kit
SRAD 750 USD forks & clamps
Spondon clipons
'01 ZX9 wheels - nickel plated
Braking 320mm Wave discs
Tokico 6 pots
5" extended Slingshot swingarm with shock tabs welded on
ZRX 1200 KYB piggyback shocks
Standard bodywork, instruments & screen
Other.
The second Kat will be for spirited twisty operation, it will have as much high spec suspension & braking technology as I can afford & will be built with weight reduction as a priority.
I bought this for a song (thanx to Stiffy for putting me onto it) it's a 7/11 & it already has some choice mods done by the previous owner who was a machinist of some sort - Slabby 18" wheels, swingarm & calipers, some nice frame bracing, late model fuel filler conversion, decent paint, etc so it's not gunna need anywhere near the amount of work that the TurboKat does.
It allegedly has a Wiseco 1166 kit in it but the motor has shat a main bearing (still runs OK but with a hellish death rumble only a roller bearing crank can produce) so it will be receiving a heart transplant with lots more power & torque as well as less weight.
Specs on this one will be;
'82 750 frame, braced like a motherfucker, shortened subframe
Ex Speeddemon Blandit Wiseco 1216 engine & carbs, dyno'd at 130 rwhp
ZRX 1200 toobular aloominum swinginarm
XJR Ohlins shocks
Slingshot 1100 USD forks with 1kg Racetech springs & Gold Valves
6061 billet triple clamps
Akront 17" X 3.5" F & 5.5" R rims
Kat front hub, Z1000 rear hub/disc
Buchanan Stainless spokes
Blackbird front discs
Tokico 6 pots
Gunna speak to Latheboy tomorrow about laser cutting some GSX to GSXR engine mounts for this one.
I forgot to put a newspaper in the pics but trust me, I took them today so it's all legit.
Gotta go... Busy.

Man, I gotta get me a new camera, the old Box Brownie just isn't cutting it any more.
love the ZRX swingers. I can't believe you have those 2 almost complete bikes there and not put together yet. good thing you made this thread!
VERY VERY keen to see the progress.
Hey TK, when the long Kat blows up I'll take the NOS off your hands and when you bin your twisty Kat I'll take the spokeys off yer hands
So out of storage she comes, the trip in the trailer blew the dust off, luckily the rats had eaten the seat of the limited ed slabbie and made it a home not this one, anyway ...
Suspension - sorted and modern radial etc
wheels - they be wire atm but 18's make it hard - would like to keep wire go wider for more modern grippier and better choice of tyres
engine - out and freshen shouldnt need much as its already a BBK with not many k's - better ignition and some flatslides i have in the cupboard renew the exhaust too
Paint - fuck im no creative so its gonna be simple after all why fuck with those lines
I can handle pain until it hurts.
Onya Mick, is it rideable?
