Throttle Cable extensions

Hey Fella's - I need to replace my Throttle and Choke cables on the VFR. Can anyone suggest what cables I can use that would be longer than the originals? Has anyone had to change theirs and what did you use to give you the length?

I was able to re-route the original throttle cables on my ZX9 to use with my MX bars. You might be able to do the same (I had to "spin" the thottle housing around the bars and re-run the cables on the near side of the frame).
As for the choke cable, you can get a bicycle brake/gear cable from Kmart for about $4 and cut it down to suit (you will have to solder on a new end lug though).

kool - thanks for the advice, but is the solder strong enough to hold the lug??

There's a mob on Mount Alexander Rd that make custom throttle cables, at least I seem to remember somebody on here posting about it. I'll go see them when I need to extend my cables.

Yes solder will hold fine(thats what they use..) You can get lots of cable and outer from your local and make it your self if ya want.

Find a friendly bike shop with a few in stock,
Work out how much longer they need to be,
Take stock cable to shop (to match ends/fittings)
and get them to pull out a selection.
Done it a few times.
Did it with Speedo cable too, Got a little GN/GS250 one on the GSX11.


Having said that I went from clip-on's to 750mm Renthals on the
Busa and by lifting the tank and re-routing the cables the throttle
and choke (fast-idle) both reached fine.
Was only clutch and brake hydraulic lines that were tight as bow strings.

Broke a clutch cable on the Kat in Birmingham UK and phone the AA
(like RACQ) guy in a van made one up on the side of the road from a
universal kit and fitted it, worked fine, looked a bit "different" slightly chunky, maybe car type?

I was a little sceptical but being a lazy bugger it remained on the
bike for a year or 2 with never a problem. Seem's DIY cables are OK
if you know what your doing.
