Going to be busy with work for the next 7 days so wont get a chance to do any thing. Did manage to make up some card board templates so you guys can see the exact shape they will be. I have a jigsaw, can a jigsaw cut 10mm thick aluminium ? If so maybe I could cut these brackets out of 10mm & then double them up to make 20mm .

Edit- Ok, so I searched online & yeah you can cut 10mm thick aluminium with a jigsaw !
So I'm going to try it, probably have to wait a week or 2.

My stock reg/rec shat itself. Cost me a new battery blowing up a balloon to figure out what the problem was...

That bracket looks like a much better idea mate. You'll be glad you went to the extra effort.

Yeah, the more I look at those L angle brackets the worst they look !

But that's what I like about these forums, some times it takes a few people to say "hay, re-think those brackets" & then you can come up with a new plan. I don't mind constructive criticism.
Those brackets have helped me to get the subframe attached & lined up, so they have helped me out.

Busy at work, so no time to do anything. Thought I would post up some pic's of how it was when I got it.
Lots of small damage, but the main stuff was ok (wheels, forks, electric's, speedo, swingarm).

Had to remove the swingarm just to replace the footpeg bracket, .

Had some marks on the frame, so thought I would paint it,

    Primer,

Aluminium spray can with clear top coat,

Then misted the lower frame part to make it look like the cast lower frame,

Well done mate, good to see another VTR being built,
With the tail you'll find it is too long.I cut 50mm from mine looks heaps better.
Also if you can find another wrecked rear subframe,I would cut the btm rails
And tig it to the one you have ,looks better and stronger.
Here is a veiw of what I did.

Hi erno, I went a different way, instead of cutting 50mm out of the subframe, I have moved the front/rear seat's & rear fairing forward 50mm so I didn't need to cut the subframe. And I am not using the rear fairing as stock, I have chopped about 170mm out of it, so my rear end should be around 220mm shorter than stock!
