New member - GSXR1100 mechanicals interest

    Hi All,
Just a quick note of introduction.
I have a passion for Suzuki GSXR 1100 motorcycle mechanicals.
So much so, that I have a little race machine that is GSXR powered.

Not exactly a street fighter, but I guess in this small world this is benefit in sharing knowledge about these old engines across disciplines.

Maybe later, I would like to build a street fighter. I have always admired the GSXR derived ones (Harris frames, etc).

    Cheers

    Peter.

That is mad. I would love to make a road based quad around the same engine or similar. I have a spare 750.... but I couldn't register it in WA.

i saw something similar do a couple of laps around Morganpark once they have some serious mumbo and stick to the deck unbelievably well.
Were are you based Peter, i am racing a 88 gsxr1100 in a 1990 frame, i can't take any credit for the engine performance tho, but i am building another couple of engines to run and see how they go.
    What The...?

Thats the trouble with reality........not everyone participates

    I am located in Victoria.
My car was originally built by a guy in QLD.
I do 1:46 around the island and 1:35 around Winton here in Victoria.

    Mods to my engine include:
    - 1052 engine
    - Wiseco 81mm pistons
    - mild cylinder head porting and skimming (13:1 comp)
    - RS40 carbs
    - custom headers (38mm tube)
    - std cams but timing set to 109/106
    - runs on pump fuel

Not sure of power output. I estimate 150bhp + at crank.

    Pulls hard out of corners.

    Cheers

    Peter.

theres a bloke up here on the Sunny Coast with 1 of them things, but its got a turbo Busa engine and 450RWHP. He's also into hill climbs, but has had it out at Willowbank...could only do 8 seconds coz it couldn't get traction.they wouldn't let it run again without a chute.
    welcome

Might be worth a look if you wanted restricted Rego in Qld in trying to get it registered as a UD category vehicle - UD = UnDefined same as forklift. Your local Qlde Transport will be able to assist you in that. Or alternately under a club rego perhaps?

I love the Turbo Busa Idea though...

    Hi Guys,

    Thanks for the interest.
It's not so much about shear power.
It's all about how you use it on the track.
I haven't got bags of power to play with and I am pushing quite a bit more weight (340kg) and more frontal area (drag) than a bike and yet I can wip the arse of many bike riders around the island (except of course for the out and out racers).

I wouldn't mind getting the car on a dyno one. I would be happy to share the results with all that are interested.

But first I need to do some repairs. I have a broken gearbox that I need to fix. Currently I am having a little difficulty finding good parts for it.

    Cheers

HEY PETE I WAS LOOKING AT A 1216 IN US. sposed to put out 162 rw
much the same specs- stock cams , i was thinking about running 109-110 ex as well on my 88-1100 mayeby 108-110 inlet to move power
out of the mid range a bit with the 13:1 1216cc ,stop it from being such a nuisance trying to wheelie in the middle of corners, bloke on gixxer.com claimed his ran hot with 110 ex centreline?

Yeah, it would be really nice to stick mine on a dyno one day and see what it really knocks out.
BTW I think my cam numbers were around the wrong way. Intake centre = 106, exhaust centre = 109.
I have played around a bit with timing and to be quite frank have not really noticed a lot of difference (at least to lap times anyway). I also run bog standard ignition timing.

When I have been up against Busa powered vehicles, I seem to have similar grunt out of the turns. I think it is mainly down to skill and balls at the end of the day. There are some vehicles I run against which seem to have a bit more top end. I run out of speed at about 220 and power over 10,000. Just think of what lap times I could do if I could pull 250+ down the front straight at the island. You have to really hang on for turn 1 however. It takes a lot of courage not to lift.

Talking to some Sidedy guys today. That might be fun. But I kind of link the security of a harness to hold me in place in my machine.

I saw a photo of a fighter the other day based on a gixxer. It looked like a stealth bomber and must gixxer bits looked pretty standard. Cool machine.

Power isn't everything. My daily driver/tow car knocks out about 530bhp. A bit more than the GSXR power plant but not as fast. Race runs to 100kph in about 3.5s. Daily driver is only about 4.5 - 5s.

I have only ever run a 1/4 once back in 2003 at Geelong speed trials.
My first ever drive of the race car. Only got one run where I didnt stall at 12.3s.

    cheers

Pete, whats your daily driver? i have about a 400hp 308 in a 1 tonne-tow/daily driver,i build a lot of engines using engine analiser programs i concentrate on power/economy engines on computor as most of the people i build engines for have to travel a couple of hours to get to bris/sunshine coast etc.308 gets better than 25mpg when i'm not towing and i've got 20 towing a vl group a from sunshine coast to here in murgon -ken

My daily driver is a supercharged, 6.0L, VZ, HSV Clubsport R8. She gets 10L/100k on a trip. 15-16 L/100 with the trailer and race car on the back. It's a pity they don't build them this way to start with. She's got more grunt than the new W427.
