No worries, I have an 89 GSXR1100 that I will be parting out some parts off, so if you need anything that I don't, let me know, I may be able to help.

Nor does mine, I don't think any of them came with a split pin.

Sorry, wrong diagram uploaded, it shows one, but I've had the rear wheel off that many times, I never used one. I'll have a closer look when I get a chance

    Hi Gixxer, welcome aboard.
My '92 doesn't have a pin, just uses a lock nut.
From memory my K model didn't have one either, but memory can be a funny thing.

it shows one but it shows it used with a castle nut. i think they all have lock nuts.

all my gixxers both oil and early watercooled don't have spilt pins. just make sure you have a lock nut.

I have a 1990 uk 1100L that I have had since 1993 and that uses a locknut standard fitment from factory and no split pin. My mates 1989 K model 1100 uses locknut as fitted from the factory perfectly safe as long as you use the locknut or nylock nuts as some people call them.

I am a trained motorcycle mechanic and have been on most major manufacturers product courses and a vast majority of bike now use this method. Provided the nut is of the self locking type you will have no problems.
Problems will only happen if a non locking nut is used or if the nut is left loose or a damaged nut is used.

Just to clarify here is a photo of what a factory set up looks like note the lip on the end of the nut.
