The poms seem to forget that we backward Aussies don't have to spend 6 months of the year playing garage queen. we go riding instead.

Yes, I know, just one of the many reasons I moved here.

You might have a point though. Lots of Streetfighters get their rebuilds / upgrades and facelifts each winter. Just one of many reasons the UK is miles ahead in the Streetfighter scene

Sure Oz will catch on. I see more "fightered" bikes appearing in your bike mags and things like this site can only be a help.
I look forward to the day I can shop / order / build like the UK guys. I have no objection to my cash staying in Oz, just as soon as the products are available.

    * Even a guy in the Oz-Busa Club is having his "intelligent TRE's" (with gear indicator and an OFF in neutral setting to aid starting) made in the UK.

    * I love this country but you might have to face the fact that its not a world leader at EVERYTHING !!

Sorry m8, but you might/might not be correct there (is the picture one of yours or off the .net) because according to SteelHeart

"Frames are mostly manufactured in 4130 ChromeMolybdenem steel tubing, this is the preferred material for the job, firstly for its immense tensile strength (over 900N/mm/sq) and durability, secondly its finish (especially when Nickel plated) Aluminium alloy 7020 T6 is also an option, "

But plating does cover the basic material, so either of us could be right. The swing-arms are alloy though.

I admit to being from NZ, but I'm a NEW AUSTRALIAN M8

Been here 20 years, haven't been home in 15, and I don't have an accent.

You wash once a week wot you lived in a dry part of England?.

A guy from the 'Men and Motors' forum turned me on to Black Velvet's the other week. Haven't been that pissed for a bloody long time, took forever to get home from the local Irish club.

Love the stuff on Steel Heart's site (have seen some of their chop stuff in the past, real class), definitely worth a good look once I get a few dollars put away. That Kat is feckin' awsome, especially if it had a stock length swing-arm on it, have any more photo's of it?.

Does it make much difference, when importing, if a group order is done?

The Steelheart photo was from their website

    http://www.steelheart-engineering.com/frames.htm

The Kat photo was from the Big-CC-racing site.
One of THE best shops in the UK for Horsepower junkies.

    http://www.bigccracing.com/

BigCC are very much into their Kats.

Yeah BigCC gets pretty good mentions on the OSS site, bit far away for me though, I prefer a place where you can turn up and check them out.

And I think that any Kat looks good.

Do you have the link for the Spondon site?

Chalk, please call me Ash, I can't take being called Spondy seriously
I think the Steelheart frames are a geniune alternative BUT they don't have the heritage and history of Spondon and Harris but their quality looks good.

Did you spot this one on the BigCC site ?

    Not much Kat left!
Just Tank, fairing, Sidepanels and front loop of the frame but looks bloody good to me.
    I like the Katan-R logo.

Yeah very nice job, looks like it would really hammer hard.

That's the one that was stolen before nxmas isn't it?

Bike thieves should be strung up.

I've just missed out on a perfect condition 82 Kat, one of the homologation specials, with wire wheels. Not a happy chappy. Some guy walked in with a bottomless wallet, and he wasn't leaving without it.

But me next bike purchase is going to be a Kat11 for rebuild.

    Dont know.
Cant think why anyone WOULD steal it, so many bits that are easy to trace on it. Better off nicking a standard Kat or R i would have thought.

Will try and get some photos of my old Kat scanned in soon ( no scanner here...hello Ash, mate, pal
GSX1100SD, late model with "R" type wheels, black engine, nice alloy pegs, Painted Metallic Blue, Deep braced JMC swingarm with 6" over adjusters, Carbon Screen and Headlamp cover, Short seat, Short frame rails, Z9 tail unit, Yellow wheels and logo's, Harris 4into1 race pipe, Billet backed clutch basket, Crank case breather, Manual cam chain tensioner, GSX750 oil pump gears, Lots of polishing and a Sweeeet motor with all the right goodies. (as you say, We have to keep busy in winter!) Sold it after 12 years when I moved out here... Mistake

I am currently looking for a "Project bike".
    A Kat is a possible.

Yeah that's Katana's bike, got stolen early December.

and you're right full of exclusive bits etc.

Don't think it was recovered either.

OldSkool have it on their home page.

Could never understand the tank emblem though, misprint?

From the Oxford Dictionary "engine = complex mechanical contrivance for converting fuel into mechanical power eg. the internal combustion engine" motor = "what imparts motion, supplying motive power inc internal combustion engine, steam power and electric power" it seems an engine is only a internal combustion engine and a motor could be any 3.
