All good things take time.
Look at my CB, engine has been in pieces for over 2yrs. haha

I found that 530 chain... $100 plus postage if you want it. It goes on ebay otherwise, I'm definitely not going to use it. There's a bit of dust on the enamel (stuck to the wax coating), it's in perfect unused condition.

Ebay it - i went with ford citric acid, so kinda green wheels and a yellow chain would be odd.

Can't put my finger on what that reminds me of. It's a factory bike but it escapes me.
Every time I look at this bike I get a case of fomo. Must get my bike going again.
Shit yea, I like that. It works really well mate. Well done. I'm not sure whether the twisted pipe stands out too much though. At first glance I didn't really take any note of it, but now looking again, it's ALL I see. If that was the plan then - it's working! If not, have you considered making it black so it doesn't shout so much?
I like the weirdness of the pipe loop, in fact I'd probably ceramic coat the rest of the exhaust system to match it
So i rode it home. New tyres and new suspension make it handle very, very well. Really sharp.
However, it overheated riding home. 110kph on the freeway, the temp dropped nicely, so going fast, enough air through the rad which makes sense since i did a trackday on it and it sat at 200+kph and 100* all day.
Between 90 and 110kph, temps will hold.
Under 90, temps rise. So bumper to bumper traffic in 30* heat wasn't very good.
While it was at troopers i bought an MT03 radiator scoop to help force air through the rad at lower speeds. I also have some body panels off a few bikes to help make a low pressure area behind the rad to help suck air through. I'll also get a low temp fan switch (from a nissan) that switches the fan on at 85 instead of 95, and may add some more tiny jaycar fans
Si, i haven't thought too much about any extra paint - i just want to ride the motherfucker for a while. I kinda like the weirdness of it too. No baffle in the can, but the extra loop helps quieten it down a bit. I love being able to hear the GDC.
And for people who haven't read the whole thread...

I love this bike
Have you seen the trick where you use an extra set of stacks and make a set of yoshimura style dual stage stacks? Bloke on the VFR forum did it, got best of both worlds - the top end of 4 short stacks, the midrange/bottom end of 4 longer stacks...
What's the rad? TL1000 upper only? I reckon it needs some more rad area to help keep it cool sub 100kmh.

Yes i have. I have enough stacks to make them, but it only fits if you do the big air box. For non VFR guys, someone moved the air filter from the middle of the airbox and custom made one to fit in the top of the airbox.
i also have a spare air box lid to butcher.

looking really good!
Nice bit of individuality and your own touch of weirdness!
I bought 2 x 120mm fans from Jaycar to replace the 2 x 80mm fans and i am picking up the lower temp fan switch tomorrow.
And the MT03 rad shroud fits pretty bloody well.
Gamma, its a custom rad. I had a TL1000R top rad before which worked well but was too wide so looked odd. It sprung a leak so i had a custom one made up. Its a bit smaller (left to right), but its a 42mm core as opposed to a 16mm core, so technically bigger.
I think that's the issue, at high speed, air gets all the way through the 42mm core, at low speed not as much air goes through.
The rad shroud will make a better high pressure zone at the front to force more air through, and the bigger fans coming on earlier will also help a lot.

That bike is fucking awesome !! nice work ! love the wheels, the loop in the pipe, barkbusters, headlight, tail. it all works together really well
Looks way newer than 2000 too
Nice work, looks like a lot of fun to ride.
Having a few recurring problems that have been getting me down a little. Made a little air dam to stop air from getting in behind the rad to help force air through the rad, fitted the MT03 scoop, and wired up the extra fan. Was gonna take it for a test ride, but I (hopefully, just) blew a fuse that powered the temp guage. Also noticed one hose is leaking, so i'll have to drain coolant again. The fuel gauge stopped working, so had to take the air box out again. Just a loose connection, and also had a loose connection with the tacho. Just little niggly problems that i think i have sorted, then they pop up. which sucks.
So i did something easy - fitted the driven keyless fuel cap. Original one was 464g, i forgot to weigh the driven one before i put it on, but using my uncalibrated ex-chef scales (my hands) it's gotta be somewhere around 150g. Taking 300g off the highest point in the bike has gotta be good.
And its pretty.

You're right; it is pretty.
What Si said.... Very pretty
I made my wife buy it for me for Christmas.
Black Friday US sales, with me telling Mish over and over, it's on sale, buy it. Have you bought it? It's only on sale til tomorrow, etc etc.
I cut down the key for my pillion seat and put a little plastic knob/handle on in (like a furniture toggle) so it can live on the bike. Keyless 1/4 turn fuel cap means I now only need one key (ignition) for the bike instead of 3.
