    Weird Cans

    I sold the Akrapovic Evo system that has been on my bike since March, so today I refitted my standard RRW system. I made a weird silencer back in January to test some zorst theories and I fitted it today.
    It's about 600mm long, 63 mm diameter with a 35mm perforated tube baffle. Currently packed with stainless wire wool. I know it looks odd , but bare with me, it will be modded over the coming days/weeks. Opinions greatly appreciated and orders taken , should you see summat you like.
    So here is weird can 1;

    Now that does look silly on anything other than a cruiser.

    It's only a test can mate, give it time?
    Just pulled the baffle out and I had forgotten to pack it. I shortened it, ready for the slashcut, wrapped and wired stainless wire wool around it and then refitted it. Some pix and a vid. Whadya think?

    shortened

    wrapped and wired

    refitted and tested

    The latest and last version of the slashcut. If anybody can sort the video problem , that would be splendid!

    Next job is better absorbtion material and maybe modding the linkpipe!

    Sounds good and it's pretty unique mate. Good on ya.

    More over, I like your interactive videos mate. The whole explaining and details is really good . Entertaining. Cheers.

    By the way, I'm fascinated as to what the weather is doing in your neck of the woods. One minute you've got slippers on, the next minute; wellies. Groovy.

    See that turned out ok, looks the goods, try glass packing that may make the note deeper as well.

    Top work fella.

    I know Rod, but I don't reckon someone from Essex would know what I was on about if I said that mate! Just saving a "What's Gum Boots?" reply.

    Thanks guys. I got inspiration on Saturday, so rushed out to my garage in my slippers. It snowed Saturday night and we cleared 4" of snow from my drive. Green wellies are de rigeur in East Sussex!!!
    I'm thinking that the narrow silencer is always gonna be too loud, even with better packing, so I am gonna mod the linkpipe with a pre-silencer to take the sharp edge off the noise n give it a more bassey tone?

    Well I was sent some proper silencing material by a very kind gentleman on another forum. So I packed the 250mm long by 35mm bore baffle , polished up the "silencer" and refitted it today. Whadya reckon;

    Double click on the piccy to listen to video.

    It ain't gonna get any quieter than this unless I fit a pre silencer under the engine. The standard exhaust system has a four into two into one which is about 48mm diameter welded to the linkpipe which is 61mm diameter. Not sure what goes on inside the link pipe, but there aint much silencing! Here's a coupla pix of the collector and link pipe;

    So I will either redesign the link pipe with a silencer in it or fit a 4" diameter pre silencer and a serpentine link pipe, as fitted to late model Blades with aftermarket Yoshimura or Akrapovic silencers.

    Before you try that mate, this is how I did mine..

    Also got a perforated disc in the ends so as you look up the 75mm outer tube you see a neat set of holes.
    Sounds good and works very well.

    Thanks for that mate. I have made baffles before with a solid disc in the middle. It certainly makes it a lot quieter, but I was hoping to avoid too much back pressure!!! The Akrapovic I have just sold was a straight through race system and was only 98dB, but it did have a 600mm can with masses of absorbtion/ silencing material in it.
    Good call though , I will try a washer in the baffle before I make the pre silencer and curly link pipe, if only to save my licence Do you have any pix looking down the can from the ends?

    Managed to get out for a bimble around the Marsh today. I picked a 1/2 mile straight between bends, put my phone camera at the side of the road, switched on and got on the bike. Dunno how to edit it , so the the bit between 20 secs and 2.05 mins is OK??? Whadya reckon??? Double click on the piccy!

    Cheers mate, it seems to flow ok. The standard silencer outlet is the same size and this one is straight through. It revs out ok in the lower gears . Gonna check the plugs when I get chance and rejet if needed!

    MOT mate, they are pretty good at the bike MOT place, but I didn't to make they're ears bleed like mine. Got some more stainless tube on it's way, so will be doing more fabbing next week

    Well got my MOT , so it's back to weird cans. Made this slashcut. 3" diameter outer stainless tube, 1 1/2 perforated baffle tube. 13" slashcut with 10" baffle. Packed with Accoustafil silencer material that gets quieter when it gets hotter! Just held together by friction for now but I thought I'd try it for looks and sound.

    And a video . Double click on picture?
