Bike engines ruin the balance and handling of a kart.
If you want a really quick kart you only need to get a XR50 engine.
It's a 250cc rotary, makes 52HP and it fits in the normal kart motor spot etc. No weight penalty. No handling penalty.
Really needs front brakes but LOL.
I've always wanted to fit a speedway solo bike motor to a kart and try that.
If neither of the above are enough, then a twin engine version of either would still be better than a bike engine.
Here's the Rotary, it's not the best pic of the engine sorry.
This thing is MENTAL fast.
Will not keep tyres under it.
Flogs a 125cc 2 stroke, 6 speed gearbox (ICC) Kart.
In NZ they race them in a 250 open class. You can run anything up to 250cc. Including bike engines and gears / methanol etc.
The Rotary wins. You change the exhaust and the ignition a bit and they jump to 64HP.
SAETTA built a twin engine one, I've got a photo of somewhere.
Ya not gunna believe this Stocky but i aint building it for balance or handling .......
Im building it coz i can. Them donks sound like fun but i didnt have one layin around.
One question thos, wots the belt driven thing off the rear axle ? My first thought was a starter but now i dunno after i looked at it again
what sort of torque do they put out stocky
Glenn Eason drinks and smokes and lends his arse to other blokes
Fair enough on the "cause you can" comment.
Funny you ask about the torque, it's actually the most impressive thing about the engine.
I expected a Rotary to be all revs and no grunt. Turns out it's a grunt monster.... see below
ummm ...yeah i was expecting fuck all torque ..but that has shut me up mate

water pump i wold say doc
Yeh, it's a water pump
Sweet, ta dudes. had me fucked.
fukkin water boilers.
This looks pretty balanced to me and has 3 times the power of the rotary thingy[]quote:Originally posted by Stocky

That's seriously impressive stuff, and I've googled XR50 and found heaps of vids and info.quote:Originally posted by Stocky

but I'm not in the market for a $6000+ moteur.[:0]
oh, its only 6K worth of engine, why didnt ya say so ???. I will go grab one and another as a spare...... fuggit, i reckon mine will go ok even if its powered by a tiny gix engine.
That looks a bit like a Zipkart chassis.[8D]quote:Originally posted by CoinSlot
How goes the kart building?
I recently bought a kart with the intent of "gixxerkarting". Already has a lil YZ125 engine in it.

You guys are making much more progress than me.
I bought another chassis when I was at AFR. I think this is the one to modify because it's already got the brake setup and has cool wings and sidepods.[8D]
Little Large's Kat and Slabbie in the background v ----------------------------------- V
It's been stripped down and the brakes have been cleaned up, new bearings all round and new brake lines on order.
Just got to find a moteur to bolt in behind the seat and it's gtg.
The sensible thing would be to bolt on a big bore 2 stroke where it was designed to go and pretend it's a kt100s...[]
thats a superkart chassis.
Seen them hit 200+
fuck yeah it had an aero floor... parts of it still lie on my front lawn....
hey rich where you getting the brake lines?... i know a guy who has a brake shop with hose making machines who could have done that for free
I can handle pain until it hurts.
