they sure are T500s I think there was not a great deal of difference between the T500 Titan and the TR500 road racer basic motor ... Same goes for the GT750 and the TR750s I think.

That is a bit of a myth, most two strokes of equal capacity will have more torque at lower rpm than four strokes. I think it is because people are used to comparing them on a performance basis, and for equal performance a four stroke is usually twice the capacity.
I am only going off previous experience. I had an RZ500 that was an absolute pig to get off the line without copious amounts of clutch drag...

Also, if that is the case Tony, why are two strokes not used more?

The RD/RZ 500 had a very high first gear ratio, that's why it was hard to get off the line, but if you compared it to anything of the same capacity in that era, it would be gone (apart from the RG500).
They don't use two strokes anymore because they cannot meet the emission regulations, although some of the high pressure direct injection marine outboards do.

Yamaha is the only manufacturer to make equivalent two and four strokes now

    YZ250 specs
    Engine Type: Single cylinder 2-stroke
    Engine Displacement: 249cc
    Bore & Stroke: 66.4 x 72mm
    Compression Ratio: 10.9:1
    Max HP: 41.3 HP @ 8400 rpm
    Max Torque: 28 lb-ft. @ 7600 rpm

    YZ250F specs
    2009 Yamaha YZ250F Specs
    2009 Yamaha YZ250F
    Engine Displacement: 250cc
    Max Horsepower: 33.3 HP @ 11,900 rpm
    Max Torque: 17.4 lb-ft. @ 8600 rpm

They where from the motorcycle usa mx shootout, they test all the bikes on the dyno on the same day.

Jockney, I THINK but dont quote me, that to run Nostalgia your bike has to either be an American Twin or Pre 1980 Jap. That was the case a couple of years ago when I looked into it anyway. My old man races his ute at nostalgia meets so I'll ask him and let ya know.

Mick Hansen up here in Mackay has a CR500 that i've seen run 10.0 a few times, it may have gone into the 9's. Ronnie Stayte has an old race bike that he was selling last time i saw him at the track, if your interested in buying something that needs rebuilding, i'll grab some photos for ya
