Nice Bike I fuckn love these things.
Not wanting to hijack your thread here's a small pic of my mates '76 RD400 at WSID. I ride it whenever I get a chance it has RD350 Micron expansion chambers, revs to 9000 and sounds nasty. I just wish it was my bike.

Sorry but im looking at the pic and isnt the shocks upside down. If you put TZ700/750 reed blocks in the 400s they go like stink. Bit of metal removal required.

power band starts at6500 and shes usually out of it by about 7500-8000 stock and the redlines at 9500,(check the gearing ..]they chucked out about 40hp stock [yamaha claimed 44] top speed was claimed 105mph [though mine would only reach a real 100mph indicated 110,till i had it breathed on ]like alfie says u can get w/c kits for em but its just as easy[and bout the same cost] to fit a 350lc engine and big bore kit .you should get 50odd hp out of the 350lc powervalve stock, and like alf says about 70hp with the 420kit
The guru to talk to about these engines is Stan Stephens in the uk, he done a stage 2 road /race tune on mine which included blueprinted engine ..porting ,reprofiled heads ,boyensen reeds k&n filters and a pair of allspeeds, after that it made 50hp on the dyno, and its 0-60mph time dropped from 6.5secs to about 5secs
