VFR800 - Project on a budget

Mrs got a VR800 a while back and it already had some work done to it. Has a CBR1000 tail grafted onto it and a MT03 headlight fitted to it too.

Overall bike's not too bad but i'd like to clean it up a bit, time is more the issue lately. Wiring will need a big cleanup too when we do the full strip down.








Handling isn't the best so we started collecting some parts for a front end upgrade. CBR929 lower triple (stops fouled the frame so they had to go), RC51 top clamp, GSXR600 forks, wheel and calipers

Unfortunately heading away for work again tomorrow, so hopefully next weekend i can mark up when the new steering stops need to go, then need to make up the headlight brackets and should be pretty straight forward from there.

Yeah, she's been at me a while now to get the conversion done for her. To think that her Xmas present last year was me buying the front end for her. Maybe for this year i will have it installed, lol

I did a trackday today on those forks, jules.
They work pretty well, a bit under sprung for me, but even with that, much better than the stockers.

I've got a vtr fan blade lying around if you want it ( it pushes the air through to the outside of the bike, instead of sucking it through like the Vfr one). It works better when you've stripped the fairings.
But it really needs a front mount rad.

You won't need steering stops with the riser bolts being that long.
Cut them down and get rid of the spacers.

After much procrastination was time to finish off installing the new front end in the VFR. Used some 3mm flatbar for the headlight brackets (will pretty it up when i strip down the bike) and mounted off the risers under the top triple. similar method to what i did on the Gixxer.

Took the bike for a quick test ride after fitting the headlight and the bike feels so much lighter with the handlbar.

Nice one Jules, that should make the bike much better to ride. I know Sarah wasn't happy with it last time she rode with us.

She also wasn't happy that she rode down on 3 cylders too... But sorted that one out quickly.

And i've finally managed to solve my non-wheeling issue on mine too. Was getting embarrassing last ride we went on.

Have you done a coil on plug conversion, or are the coil packs hidden under the tank?

Coil packs are just under the tank

2008 cbr 1000 stick coils and harness, and some motherboard stand offs.
took me half an hour, should take you 20 minutes.

Hooligan, have you had any issues with your coil on plug mod? Conflicting reports on vfrdiscussion.com...

None, but I've only ridden it a few times- but one of those times was a track day.
I bought new plugs (same as OEM), screwed on the motherboard stand offs to make the plugs a bit longer with some conductive grease, and put them in.
Used an extra o ring to seal the hole a bit better, but no issues at all. I reckon it's the motherboard standoffs to make the plugs longer that makes it work.
The COPs only just make contact with the plugs otherwise.
