Nice write up, but PLEASE don't cut it up! [:0]

I love those H1's as stockers (I have one in my dream shed....) []
Hillsy, I'd love to keep it all stock bro but the simple is, that it was dropped quite hard.. the plastics are pretty much U/S, the mounting brackets are all munted.. replacements will cost more than i spent on the bike.. and it's just not economically viable to 'restore' to original per se..
No worries matey - if she's not worth restoring get fightering then.

    Welcome aboard

So, anyone feelin keen to help a noobie bitch like me make a bitchin tail for this puppy ?

The hard and fast is, I've gotta get it done and dusted in time for the northam show.. ( that's the plan ) the reality.. I've probably got SFA chance.. but i'll work at it..

thanks guys, i was posting this build up over on psb - but.. being that billywhizz reckons i should post it up here - i was waiting till the 'deconstruction' was almost complete before i bored you all with a 300 page ' where's the bolt to get the tank off ? '

Scotty mac, yeah - I'm interested mate.. I'm thinking something short, sharp.. like the new 1098 ducati tail, or something distinct.. I've got a 97 900rr blade, and it's got a nice tail.. but not really as agressive as i'd like..
But I'm definitely interested - What have you got there matey ? ( if it saves me a week on the glassing.. it's time saved that I can spend on getting things polished etc )

this is what a wiring loom looks like - removed from a H1 zxr 750...

and i've removed the front 2 bolts that hold the top of the rear section on..

cluster is completely removed, electrically and physically...

basically, it's just 2 bolts up front.. holding it in...

when you release the front, the entire rear section drops about 6"...

gotta get the rear section off.. here's the 2 bolts either side holding the tray in..

2 phillips screws holding in the top...

the trays off... that looks easy to get at...

    making progress...

2 bolts holding that section on..

here's the pivot bolts that hold the bottom of the rear section to the main frame on the bike..

    rear section comes away nicely...

looks a bit like a trials bike now...

    another angle...

gotta get those 2 bolts out - to remove the battery tray.. and remove the reservoir for the rear brake..

    and, it's off...

    diiiiiiirty...

let's get that " so cool " hugger off the back wheel...

2 phillips screws holding it in, either side...

checkout that munted brake line.. that's sooo gonna get changed with braided lines...

    from the other side..

    fo shizzle !

now, doesnt that look much cleaner

that's the much reveered power plant, right there..

looks kinda lonely.. doesnt it ?

    looking empty and much lighter...

something in this picture just aint right...

looks different to what we originally started with..

bought a new front stand.. makes stuff like this alot easier...

    and let's make it count...

Ok, i'm looking at that back end - and to have it exposed seems a touch 'unfinished'

So I'm looking at something like this... ( excuse the corny chopper reference, I'm just looking at the wheel cover.. )

Just that guard.. can anyone here help me out with a bit of fabrication ? ( this is well beyond my capabilities )

You need someone with an English Wheel. Try asking Pommy Choppers, I reckon he'd know.

    Ok, an on we move..

next for today - remove that ancient antique 1989 monoshock..

    spanner either side..

    bolt is out..

here's the bottom, same deal.. nut and bolt.. bolt is off...

once it's out - the entire rear section is more limp than hugh heffner..

notice how degreaser works wonders ?

and this is what it looks like - nothing special, spectacular or anything else..

Well, aparently the carbs are passed their use by date - and the monoshock is going to be pricey - which leads me to either a hagen from the UK or something similar for around $600 aud..

I have little choice at this point other than to either locate a set of low k' carbies - or put a cheap ( if i can find one ) motor from a zx9 into it.. or from another zxr750..

I'm really starting to get a bit blue about the whole thing, I had no idea it would be this difficult.. *sighs*

If any of you guys can point me in the right direction - I'd appreciate it..

( I think i'm not all that far from standing right back and start throwing matches at it ! :P )
