    What type of metal?

If I was to make new dog bones for a rear shock linkage, what type of steel would I be best to use? I've got no experience with this type of stuff, but I'm probably going to have to jack up the arse end of a GS500 to make it more "off roady" for next years Scrapheap Adventure and I'm starting to get shit organised early (I know, I know, "That's not how you do it").
So would they be okay in mild steel if it was thick enough? Or should they be made of something more exotic? Where would the best place to find this exotic material be?

    Thanks in advance cunts.

I've tried the search thing, but no luck that's why I thought I'd ask.

Yes. Its a bit of an in-joke.
Years ago a member made them from something "less than suitable"
and the results weren't great !

I've made shit loads, and always made them out of 304 stainless, only due to being able to get it from work, but you could still use a high carbon steel.
304 still has a small element of carbon in it, so ever so slightly, and I mean slightly, can sometimes get a faint shade of rust colour.... sometimes, but very rare.
When I made them, I didn't use a plazma to cut them, I used a 1mm cutting disc to get the basic shape, then final shaping with a grinding disc.
I didn't want eccess heat in the steel while making them.
    Remember to match drill them.

PS...make sure you don't leave any shape transitions or nicks, between angles, and that everything is radiused and flowing, to eliminate potential cracking.

Okay sweet. That's how I planned on doing them (because all I've got is a grinder and a file!)
    Thanks
