Buell 1125cr headlights came in !

Hi Gents ! my Buell 1125cr headlight finally came in for my TL1000s.

does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to mount the headlight, As i'm clueless lol.

I was thinking of using those fork clamp brackets that you can get from ebay and make some metal brackets from bunnings to mount it to the headlight. From memory i think the buell 1125cr headlight mounts directly to the factory triple tree clamp.

i also plan to mount my gsxr1000 k1 speedo just about the headlight. As some members have done, I'll probably just trace behind the cluster and cut out the shape on an aluminum sheet and mount that to the fork clamp brackets

here are some photos of the light and my rough bike lol.

For anyone who was also thinking about going down this path.
It has cost me about $385 for the headlight and windshield alone from Peter Stevens.
Surprisingly comes with the light globes too.

Ok, so it has 2 mounts at the top side, and then 2 mounts at the top rear.

Now get a photo of the position you want it mounted on the bike allowing for the dash as well. This way we'll see where those mounts line up with and what the best solution will be.

It also looks to have a pair of pins on the bottom for locating into a mounting frame

Yeah you're definitely right there Gammaboy, I was thinking of just making a bracket that joins from the lower triple clamp to support the plastic pins below

Side of the headlight. It looks like i won't be able to mount the headlight from the side.
As that's where the windshield bolts in.

Plus the gap on the side will be for my indicators

I'm planning to mount my cluster on top of the risers as there's no room under the windshield as i'll need to tuck all my wires in there.

Must likely buy some bracket to mount the cluster on to the Bars

Fuck me, they almost perfectly line up with your triple clamps! The simplest way I can see for the bottom would be to create two brackets that mount on the two bolts of the lower triple clamp, one for each side. Bend it to create a mount for the bottom plastic pegs, but make the hole oversize and place a tight fitting rubber grommet in there so the pins locate snuggly into a rubber mounted hiolder to stop vibration.

At the top, you could either adapt your top clamp point somehow, or alternatively try some like this http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/onl...spx?pid=393575 to create a top clamp on the forks that is low profile. 3rd option would be to mount something from your ignition block out to either side.

gix11, do you think those brackets you've suggested from super cheap will be strong enough to hold the headlight without it slipping ? or should I invest in some sort of fork clamp brackets

here is how someone has changed their XB to a CR headlight, yours may not line up exactly like this but it may give you some ideas.

As long as you drill it right first time and in the right spot you will have no problem. Guys have been drilling their clamps for years to add risers to convert from clip-ons.

As mentioned before, if you are worried, go the clamp idea instead. As for will tye support it, it's only a light unit, and the weight will be held by the bottom mounts, so the top is literally just holding it from falling forward, so those clamps would be plenty.

The guy in the other topic has used the other idea I mentioned about coming from the centre outwards with a bracket. That would hide things more.

What I've done in the past is mount off the top and bottom clamp on my bikes. The top clamp i mounted off the riser bolts (double nutted them) and the bottom clamp usually you have a threaded hole there where the horn mounts on most bikes. The bottom clamp you'd use to stop vibration, top mount for strength.

Example of what I did on the Gixxer below. I only mounted from the top clamp on this bike and made brackets out of flatbar which i picked up from bunnings

In pic below they were not lined up hence not looking straight

fair bit of measuring and bending but comes up clean:
