    Just sticking my head in

G'day, Long term owner of a tri-colour '94 fireblade, great bike, but was always kinda thinking about ripping her clothes off and turning her into something a little less respectable.
But i think ill preserve her honour for a bit, and looking at a new project - i just dont know what it is yet!!

Basically something that handles, goes and stops like the 900rr without giving me dead hands after 5 minutes of straight road, and has the under seat storage and pillion-ability except with more torque and doesnt look like a fuggen transformer like all the current bikes do.
    Is that so hard??

    Cheers, Nick.

Thanks for the welcome guys, lovin this forum so far, so much porn, and some of the threads are an absolute pisser (im thinking of the "take that cunts tools off him" thread for one, lol.
So anyway, I'm completely new to sf scene, even though i always loved the concept.
So newb question number 1; what is the easiest way of putting a handlebar on a sport bike? Drill and tap the triple clamp? Where to go to get bits and pieces?
Feel free to flame, but also feel free to point us in the direction of any threads/ websites on this!
I dont want to give too much away just yet, but i may have a cunning plan (not involving my 'blade)

    Hi Nick, welcome.

There a few options on top yokes.
Drill and fit risers, have one made, etc etc.
Most popular models have them available off the shelf from the UK or Europe.
That the option I went with with my Busa.

    screen shot on windows

    Be aware:

    Some Moto-X / dirtbike bars aren't suitable.
There isn't enough straight for the extra switchgear.
This puts the master cylinder mounts on the first bend,
and the levers don't pull in square to the bars. Most bars are OK
but it's a shit if you buy the wrong ones!

Normally looms for switch gear, throttle, choke / fast idle can be made to reach,
tank off and re-route around the frame, behind / through / Infront of the forks and
I've kept stock ones on GSXR's / Busa etc.

Be prepared to buy new hydraulic clutch / brake lines, they are often a bigger issue.

If your removing fairings / Tupperware you lose the mirrors. Many bikes like GSXR's
and Hayabusa's don't have mounts on their master cylinders, but.... You can often swap
the little half moon clamps from a bike that's does, GSX14 go's onto Hayabusa etc.

Thanks Tony, Kartras, yeah that does sound like the type of advise that 99.99% would have found out the hard way.
So I just go to Renthal, pick out the bar I like (making sure its for road bikes) and the clamps i like and then either bolt them in or get them welded on?
Re hydraulic lines, yeah not too worried about that, I know a guy that can make these for me. And wiring, thanks for the tip re un-tacking and rerouting, failing that i imagine not too much drama to lengthen, but i imagine a tidy up will be in order anyway.
Mirrors, headlight and dash may not be a problem, as i think i may be able to keep the nose-cone on with this particular bike which i choose not to disclose just yet.
Its still all pipe dreams at this stage, but if i'm right, i think i might be on to something that will be ridiculously easy, ridiculously fast, and will pretty much piss off everyone on one level or another.

Yeah, if your pulling a full fairing off, or even just the lowers, expect to find stuff like
wireing looms, fuse boxes, relays etc. They don't make stuff real pretty because its
normally never seen. It's all fixable with a bit of thought. My current bike had the fuses
extended to go under the pillion seat and relays under the rear of the tank.

If its water cooled the rads can be a but ugly.
A pet hate of mine is naked Busa's rads, the top hose comes out the front and go's down
and under, looks awful! It's quite common to move the stub to the back, and blacking the
silver / grey rad helps too.

Plenty of after market clock options, I recently went KOSO but there are smaller cheaper ones about.

    Thanks Gix.
So anyways, the big hairbrain sceme was to buy this ducati 1098 with a skidded up fairing and meticulous service record, and then strip that bitch down to her undies, but looks like i missed the boat on that one. The other idea that iv had floating around in my head for some time was a triumph speed tripple (perhaps blown??) but im not 100% sure i like the look of them - something about the frame annoys me on an aesthetic level. I just love the idea of the tripple pot engine.
Now im looking at gixxer 1000s circa 2001 - 2004. Just wondering on how low and mid range torque on a gixxer would compare to the old 893cc 'blade??
Iv never ridden one - sheltered life
Im chasing more torque, but dont want to give up agility.

Welcome mate. I used to have a Fightered R1 and now have a K4 GSXR that I built. No complaints on torque or top speed. Love the bike
