sent an email to the shipping company(it went through ebay global shipping)
    "Hello,

Thank you for contacting Pitney Bowes,

Your parcel has been restricted going into Australia. According to Australian Customs this parcel will not be allowed into the country. I have informed eBay of this issue and they will be contacting you within 72 hours. You will be fully refunded for this purchase along with the shipping costs. I do apologize for this inconvenience.

    Thank You, "

and have just sent an email to australian customs, to ask their take on shipping motorcycle shocks...

    Why was it stopped?
    Was it new?
Was it second hand and dirty?
Did it have a kilo of rack hidden in it?

My guess is it's been classes an "item under pressure" like an aerosol can.........maybe. ??

I've bought shocks from the US and Europe before and never had a problem, I did buy one for the Tuono of ebay too, no drama other than the fact it was a POS but that's another story.

but they are saying "According to Australian Customs this parcel will not be allowed into the country"

It wouldnt be a customs concern if that was the issue? and they should just state that the shock isnt fit for flight due to being a pressurised item, will see what the shipping company says in the morning. i have forwarded customs response to them.

You should get a letter from customs if your item is stopped by them

Got an email back from Pitney Bowes

    Hello Tim,

Thank you for providing this information, This item is restricted due to the fact that Shock absorbers contain compressed gas, which IATA (International Air Transport Association) considers a Dangerous Good. Being as though your parcel was beign shipped by Air, will not be able to be shipped forward. We cannot ship shock absorbers by plane. As I stated in the previous email, you will be contacted by eBay and you will be fully refunded for your purchase. You can purchase this item again on eBay and request that the seller opt out of the GSP program and have him to forward the parcel directly to you. I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.

    Best Regards,
looks like it best not to use the global shipping program for any future overseas purchases. Orgainised to have another shock shipped by a different carrier.

While I can understand what they are saying, they should of just stated that in the first email and not blamed it on Australian customs .

Yeah, bet the seller just put "Motorcycle parts" on the description?
Vs "Motorcycle Shock Adsorber" or whatever the ebay title was via Ebay global shipping program.
