Cheap wheels to find is the easy bit , can your friend make spacers brackets ? If so Ali 17 inch rims are all about.

Cbr250 wheels are the popular choice. If you look around online you can find what dimensions the spacers need to be

Will the shaft be the same diameter off a CBR 250? Having a look online and haven't come up with much

My boys got some cbr250 rims, will check dimensions over the next couple of days if you like. Has axels too. I used rgv rear and 250 bandit front for my crf 450.

Couple of mates played with swapping wheels on dirtbikes/motards.

They swapped wheels OK, and changed the chain / sprockets to get different gearing
but we're never happy with a "one size fits all" suspension.

Best as one or the other.

If you have access to a lathe with enough swing to fit a 17" wheel you can make any wheel fit.

No access anymore in Brissy for me TK. Don't have a workshop here yet, but will get there.

In the meanwhile I have come across this though:

A set of Aprilia rxv rims with good tyres sold on eBay for 650 the other day. And they're really good motard rims, so keep an eye in there.
