    'Kin electrics

OK so as far as I'm concerned motorcycle electrics are a black art , unfathomable and a fuckin nightmare.

So I put my Speed Triple back together and fire it up in the garage. Sweet all lights and horn work and all's good and rosy. Turn it off, close the garage door and leave it overnight.
Next day I leather up turn the key and zilch, nothing, a dead motor.

Lights and indicators work and starter motor turns over with no problems. Upon further investigation it turns out that as soon as I turn the key my 15amp fuse in the engine ignition circuit pops.

The frustrating thing is that the bike was starting and running fine before I turned the ignition off and just left it in the garage.

Has anybody got any suggestions as to where I might start looking to find the problem. My first thoughts are that it may be something to do with the ignition barrel or the fuse box but that's an uneducated guess and probably just clutching at straws.

    Any suggestions?

If it is blowing a fuse like that is has to be a direct short I would have thought.

If it ran the night before and now blows a fuze , heat is the first clue. Check for wires near exaust etc that could get to hot and melt to the chassie/exaust, Instant direct short. And if you run it up then shut it down in the shed the heat soak melts wire then cools n clues it to something.

If you have a test lamp fit it between the fuze position (thats blowing) and start un-plugging bits till it goes out to chase down the short. Start unplugging things like ignitor Box coils etc. If you dont have a test light or a multi meter a tail light bulb with some wires on it will do the same thing.

I always turn the key just before leathering up.. its similar to putting the bung in before backin down the ramp.
