    GS450 build

So Im gonna give a cafe racer build a go. So a not having the best build skills I thought this mite be a nice easy bike to start on. Plus it is gonna end up being for Loz (Mrs bob)

I picked it up today. Motor turns over but doesnt start. Some electrics work, it will be almost a full restro by the time Im done.

I would love to become a professional whistler. I'm pretty amazing at it now, but I wanna get, like, even better. Make my living out of it.

GS 500 or GR 650 either would probably go close to bolting straight in.

GS500 motor will bolt straight in, but the exhaust ports point straight to the frame downtubes.

You can use the 500 cylinders and pistons with the 450 head for a cheap big bore, or use GR650 block and pistons for a bigger bore (I think it comes up to 527).

GS Resources has a bunch of details about all these swaps. Those 450 tanks are pretty sort after in the US, just by the way.

Well today not being at work I did a little bit more to it. Go the electrics sorted more and have started on the carbies. It now has spark and turns over on the starter. Flushed some fresh oil threw it and made shore its got oil pressure as well. If all gos well mite even try and start it by the end of the week.

Will find out soon Hillsy, looks like someone has welded on a piece of metal pipe. They will be replaced in the future. Took the carbies out today, soaking in a bucket of fuel for the night.

Compression test. One cylinder has 130psi the other has 65 psi. So mot likely a rebuild.

So after running it for 20 odd minutes the other day the oil light came on. After letting it cool I checked the oil level and it seemed ok. So today I took the rocket cover off and check that oil was getting to the top

It seems ok, gave it a few cranks and oil seems to flow. So I decided to do another compression test and now seems to have good compression in the cylinder that was low. It was at 65psi, but now it 140

Other cylinder is still the same.

So mabe the motor is ok? Just got to find out why its smoking so much out of the crank case breather.

Ive been busy with the shed. But now that's done back to it. So over the xmas holiday I have started to order parts, need another tank as the original was rusted out and tail/seat unit. Got different bars coming and mufflers on the way too. There will be more bits to come over time as I need them. But did a quick mock up today,

Hope to do more in the week
