    Kiwi's new project "PROJECT NEW/OLDSKOOL"

Ok here we go again "PROJECT NEW/OLDSKOOL"

This one is going to be a mix of new and old, starting out with a 1979 Z1000 ST frame( that Mohawk is so nicely bringing down from The Wang for me, thanks again mate.

She'll be getting new running gear new wheels under tail exhaust and something Kawasaki air cooled with way too much power!
......Turbo I hear u all asking??????

Ill be taking a lot more time on this one, won't really be much progress in the next six months as I have a tiny apartment and NO garage at the moment and have Bubs number 1 on the way.

This is the photoshop concept pic(still not sure on the tail)

    So we have already:
    -The Z1000 ST frame
    -05 ZX636 forks
    -06 Z1000 triples
    -06 GIXXER 1000 4pot radial mount calipers
    -Aprilia twin 320mm rotors
    -08 R1 swingarm
    -07 R1 shock and linkage
-08 R1 rear caliper and carrier hanger
-and IMO the signature of this build... black Ducati sport classic wheels!

Not really sure on the couour scheme yet but I'm thinking stripped paint on triples, lower fork legs and calipers(with TOKICO in black)and oven cleaned fork tops...... To get a nice clean alloy look, brushed not polished!
And maybe a brushed alloy swinger too..... Ill be having the bars alloy and as bare as possible.
I want virtually no wiring visible.

Thats a nice pile of parts to start with.

I know someone else in Brissy who has an ST frame put away.
I said why not the classic Z9/Z1000 frame but he said the ST
is wider across the swingarm area ? Correct ?

Yeah that's rite tony the ST is wider coz of the shaft drive, about 300mm I think so easier to fit a wide rear without fouling the chain on the frame And hooligan searched the globe for a long long time and now have two sets in my position, one that I have powder coated black and one that is still chrome.

yep, I was wondering whether you were running tubes or not.
I've got a motard, and if you were tubless, was curious what you'd done. And the answer is used a tube.
If teh finished bike looks close to the mockup, it's gonna be great.

shhhhh i might or might not be useing the same motor and did think of turbo
just depends on how u want to end up, mid 130s in rear wheel hp isnt that hard n/a but cost eather way it would pay to do yr sums
but be prepared if u want the unitrack motor with the 18 mm rods to have fun finding one not in a bike atm and bikes are going for over 1000 atm as well ....dont ask me how i know or how the mail man is going to kill me for lugging a crank from z germans

Ahh I see, I work with an old boy who runs Zed's as drag bikes at last count he had 12 of them!!!
The one he is running now got kicked off the dyno at 12000rpm, the guy doing it said na no more take it somewhere else!
Valves the size of 50c coins and the cams in this thing are so fucken big he has had to gring down into the head just so they can spin,

He has a couple of heads with the kidney shaped chambers set aside for me and a brain full of knowledge I plan to pick through...

lol funny i have the same thing with scotty from rapid motion
i will be running the bigger valves and flowed head but a mix of a few dif yrs std cams dialed in to what ever dia he says
wont spin past 9.5 k -10 k but should be better street motor
the roller crank is strong as and only needs a bit of prep and from what im told the 18 mm rods are the biggest that kwaka made
the last of the uni's also had a back cut gear box as std i dont think u can go wrong
lots of drag race parts of the shelf makes it a easy thing to choose
and dont just think u grind the inside of the head lots to be done out side so it runs cooler for bigger cc i almost went a 2nd hand 1465 big block but we ended going 1230 big bore and sleaves because at end of the day i want a street bike that i can race not a race bike that i could put up with on the street lol
this should be a intresting build , i should dig out some more of the pics i have of how to line face the swing arm at home so u can fit it in frame
I am very proud of my race....the fucking human race...........

the only hard part is makeing yr mind up about the geometry u wish and can run
the setting of the height is easy, basicly i would just set the front end up as u wish for rake and hight etc
and adjust the frame and swing to suit and check yr swing arm angle as well as anti squat angle
    and away u go
