I'm trying to get the angles right so the mask is still tucked in and the lights dont foul on the headstock.
This is supposed to be a genuine vintage goalie mask with weathering, so I'll run it as is for a while.
I like it. It's different. Nice work.
Finished glassing the tail a while back, but it was obviously too big, so got creative with thje crayons
Then I got the dremel out and trimmed the whole thing down...but it's still tooo large [V]
I actually found a guy in the UK who makes a fair copy of the desmo (except for the vents in the top which would be covered anyway) tail, but he wont answer his emails or the phone.
So I've started on the tail unit again.
...and there's foam everyfuckingwhere again
like the idea of the desmo lookalike tail. whered you get ya foam? polystyrene is a cunt to work with and art shops look at me like i'm not on enough drugs when i ask for high density foam....

Keep trying him Large his work looks as though its of an extremely high standard , just perfect to compliment your ride thus far , with obviously lots more to comeWhy no vents in the top M8 , don't you like em?
so the new tail is going to be less wide?
or is it still too big for ya all around?
might not look so out of place with a custom subframe on there
Rev the fucker!!!!!

Less long
Same height
And yes, been thinking about redoing the subby
Hey large - I'm about to go down the custom subframe and tail for the 12.
My plan is to fuck off sculpting foam - I haven't done an arts degree so I'm pretty useless in that regard. Tried and failed about 3 times really. My plan is to produce scaled side, top and rear views of a tail piece I want - plug them into solidworks and produce 3d models. From this I will be able to print out "slices" of the tail that I can stick to timber and cut out and assemble the tail piece like an aircraft wing is made. I'll fill in the missing sections with expander foam and then sand back inline with the timber templates. Hey presto hopefully I'll have a nice plug sorted. I'll also be able to lay everything up in solidworks with a photo of the bike so I can see it assembled on the bike - sort of - will only work in a side view but you get the idea.
balsa would be nice and easy mr ZX
i'll have something that might interest you in my RG thread tomorrow
Rev the fucker!!!!!
Cool - will wait and see what you got mr fimp. I was thinking cheap fibreboard - I dont want to use anything that will ablate faster then the foam - expanding foam is suprisingly tough. I figure i'll have to give the whole lot a fine coat of body filler or plaster as outlaw did with his headlight unit before hitting it with paint etc.quote:Originally posted by fimpBIKES

Seen bodywork done that way with foam slices about 2" thick. If you can get accurate cross sections it should be easy enough. But how do ytou get the cross sections accurate?quote:Originally posted by zx12argh

Btw, can you tell me the ground clearance under your moteur/exhaust, whichever is lower ploz??
oooooooooooooooooooo! Large thats bloody beautiful , Hope it all comes together and quickly
I'll be able to do a section view through planes in my model then print them off. Glue the images to the timber/foam (still working that out) and cut them out that way. I reckon I'll be able to get a much more symetric profile rather then using my eye.quote:Originally posted by Large

The sump is the lowest point on the bike - i'll try to remember to chuck a tape under it mate.quote:
