    WHITEYS RACE BIKE AND KATANA

I hope this is the correct place for these pictures. If its not, I am sorry and I will delete them.
I built the Katana over 4 years in my workshop. I mono shocked it with 5.5" wheel, USD front end, big brakes etc.

I made the muffler once I sourced some hollow carbon tube. I built a later model GSX1150EFE motor for it. I got sick of sore back on rides, so made the risers and fitted uprite bars.

I made alot of chassis and suspension chances from standard and my ideas have so far worked really well. It steers excellent. It brakes excellent, but the suspension tuning is still not quite right. But were getting there, because were getting faster every outing.

theres alot of custom made parts if you look closely, but many are hidden under the tank and seat. Its one hell of a hoot to ride, thats for sure !

I raced a Yamaha TD250 for 10 years back in the 90s. Theyre an old Grand Prix bike from 1972, that I raced in Post Classic class. I won many State level championships, Victorian championship once and my biggest achievment was winning the Australian 250 championships at Phillip Island in 1995. That was against 32 other 250s aswell. I havent had any interest at the Bracket Racing class, as you asked. Im realy only into the Historic Racing as I have been for years. Now that Im alot heavier than I was, Im on the "modernest" post classic, the period 5 (forgotten era) class. This class is open to ANY bike up to 1300cc, providing it was built and only uses parts that were available no later than December 1980. Hence why my 1980 GSX1100 racer was chosen and built. Robbie Phylis (ex world superbike racer) from the early 90s, is racing in the class, on his original GSX1100 race bike that he rode in 1980 81 in the Australian Superbike championships. Needless to say, no one can catch him !

Why should you go back and sit in the corner ? You asked a valid question. I hope I didnt come across sounding too much like a tool. It wasnt my intention at all. Just proud of my achievments over the years I guess. Bracket racing is a great entry level class for modern bikes, but the old skool air cooled historic bikes are realy only built for racing in the period they represent, against similar machines. The major limiting factor is only being able to use parts that were available no later than December 1980. The modern bikes are way too advanced compaired to the old Forgotten Era bikes and wouldnt be a match for one another.

    G'day Ken,
It's not Russ, you met Whitey at Laurie's 40th and at the combined Katana and SV club ride when we met up at a servo at Crafers a couple of years ago.
    Cheers Russ

whitey just abit of tongue in fact i agree with you mate brackets is a great entry level racing for a state that just wouldnt have the numbers to run all the different catagories that the eastern states run.

Hi Whitey, you have built some truly amazing bikes! The tail looks like a factory race seat try REPLICO, Graham seems to have most early race bodywork.
