The last I heard Bob Martin was infact deceased although BME are still in business.
Well if he is dead or not he definitely isn't hands on any more:

Bob Martin engineering was established in 1972. Bob's engineering skills have seen BME grow over the past 30 years, to become one of Australia's most sought after motorcycle engineering specialists. Specializing in repairs and modifications to all makes and models. Our frame building and construction have developed from Bob's early days as a sidecar racer when he built his own frames that were among the best in the Australasia. BME frames have been credited with wins at Bathurst during their 20 year involvement.
The company has now been handed to Bob's son Steve Martin, who along with an experienced team, continue to deliver BME's innovative, excellent standards.

Well as long as he doesn't do any lame arse jokes I'm still happy to try it.

The site does say that the frame was designed by Steve Martin.

The G/11 BME frame simply looks too busy, its proberly an enginerring masterpeice and works beyond how it should, but it really looks too complex. Spondon / Martek / Harris frames are simple to look at (pleasing to the eye) and they work. But at 14k for a new frame (frame, alloy tank, SS swinger, Ohlins rear and triples) its out of most peoples reach. Ive said it before and ill say it again, if someone built a "Spondon" style big tube alloy frame with a generic tank, R1,CBR900, no subframe or similar to suit a range of engines from the big 4 they would sell.

At the present rate of exchange a spondon frame for a gsxr1100/bandit1200 will cost au$8800 that is without VAT as you wont pay it if ordering and paying from Aussie land but fuck knows what the shipping would be.

Just thought you would like to know

Cavey: Not necessarily, Harris, Bimota etc made similar frames back in the 80's that were more ridgid than stock frames. Having the engine as a stressed member increases ridgidity significantly. Plus a lot of the problems with the slabbies sheeted home to suspension and swing arm.

War Hound: this time we have a core of at least 2 goers on it plus an actual local manufacturer with a product, which is better than when that thread was written, I know cos I was one of the bigger shit stirrers in that one . Another 1 or 2 definites and we'll have enough for a small production run. Could be the start of an Aussie Harris/Spondon etc.

Bob is no longer of this world but like Gix says Steve (son) is running the company. BME is very highly regarded down here, seems to do most of the frame work for the dealerships and the custom (harley) stuff. They are in Fern tree gully which is about 10 mins from home so if you want I could drop in and get some info if you like. They are a nice bunch to deal with too.

Alfie - you forget AU Tax!!!

Its 5% on the sale price and then you need to pay 10% GST this end on both the 5% Tax and the combined shipping - so it works out at over $10k AUS - more like $11k unless you get ya bro to send it or something like that.

There's a guy here in CBR who built one of those over the top Humpty Dumpties, 2ltr plus motor, Arlen Ness (I think) frame, etc etc etc. The frame broke due to vibration, and he had to send it back to the States for replacement, took ages to get it sorted. Dunno if this is a problem with Spondon's (we'll be using GSXR's, not the world's biggest vibrator ), but Melbourne is a lot closer than UK.
