    Oil temp?

    How hot is too hot?

Seeing as I have an air cooled engine and the engine oil gets pumped through my turbo, it gets hot. I have a little oil cooler on there now from a 110cc dirt bike, (as i figured something was better than nothing) but the oil still sits around the 100 degree mark.

What temps can oil get too before it fails to work properly?

130 deg c is average breakdown temp of engine oil , more additives can drop or increase this "average temp" breef exposure to a temp above 130 will do far less damage than prolonged exposure to 120 deg c. The general consensus from my sorces is between 80 and 90 deg c is ideal but 100 is just fine mate oil cooler is possably a little on the small side.

Just change it every 2500k's with a filter and all should be fine.

    X2

Use a decent synthetic oil like Mobil 1 and stop worrying.

My oil cooled race engine regularly runs above 100C. In fact it is probably closer to 120C.
Run a good oil and you should not have an issue.

Indeed Mobile 1 is a good n High flash point etc etc if you want better (much) Amsoil but it will cost you, from someone like Autobla or superipoff it would be up around $100 a quart but this bloke can hook you up for alot less is going for around $11.50 a quart in the states. His web site (Aussie) has it at $16 a quart.

If that's $16 delivered, bargain. Watch out for huge freight charges and restrictions.

Mobil 1 is easy to find just about anywhere across the map. If you live in the middle of nowhere, the local Mobil servo or fuel depot can order it in for you.
