    about time zephyr 1100

well its been on the shed floor for 4 yrs now and i have talked endlessly about what i am doing to any 1 that would politely listen to my rubish for any period of time.

there has always been: till i have my workshop, or the time and money exusses
but really i have to say its more just been that i really didnt know what i wanted the bike to become.

luckly i have being insired by some of the builds here and elsewhere,
im starting to really find bikes old and new built in a way that i really resept not just appreciate (Hysteria eg)
with the added bonus of good mates like russ to kick my arse and a great wife i had to start soner or later, the wifes bike is waiting for the lathe to have power so i can machine a steem and bushs non to soon a made a start

this is the bike befor i crashed at queensland raceway at not to far under the 120 mph mark at the end of the back stright

and this is after a few hrs in the shed and some dusty parts

    <a href="http://s1136.photobucket.com/albums/n493/ozzy1100/?action=view&current=P1042_19-02-11600x450.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n493/ozzy1100/P1042_19-02-11600x450.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

this is just a ruff mock up to check hight, angles and steering angle
the forks are to be zx14 so i just pushed the stocks up the clamp. ill have to recheck after the 14 forks are on as they run diff offset
changeing the trail and hight but where i like it to what i can buy for rear shocks its a bit steap in the forks at 24.4 and 3.8 ish trail not to far of that for a blade i could just change the front hight but like the lines at that angle, doh looks like ill have to work out how to machine offset steam to change it to a bit more lazy
I am very proud of my race....the fucking human race...........

thanks geoff going to be a bit better now i have a bit of a concept of what i want the end result to be like.
the hard part now will be working out the details
brakes and bouncy bit taken care off.
zrx 1200 arm , zx 14 front end (new springs and kitted) , busa rims and gazze rear shocks. tho have 2 get a final idea of clearnce needed and what rake and trail will suit the bike. std is 1500 wheel base, 27 110 trail front i have lost 50 mm wheelbase what a shame and am loseing the 18 rim at the front all so not a bad thing lol
paint and panel i have good ideas for but one thing i havnt worked out is power.....
bike had 85 rwhp before not lots but the flat table of grunt all tho the range made it a great bike to ride but only netted a flat 12 1/4 mile time at willowbank... was thinking at least over 100 and prob dont want any more than 150 at the wheel. this leaves the prob that this motor is really a 1 off by kwaka sort off a 5 speed zx 10 bottom end and some of one of their 1200 mtors that i cant think of the name of. twin plug top end so thats 8 plugs for fuck sake and very little in the way of go fast bits or info .
so im down to tuff na but prob only get just into the low 100s with out spending and risking the only motor ill prob get hands on.
then there is turbo only light tune to get up to the mark but rego, insurance and the need for efi.

and as for afr looks like churpy moring boy russ and i are having a road trip again this yr
have to stop my self wanting to stab him when he is bright eyed when ill fell like the dead cat that climbed up deono's arse last yr lol

    just a update
    not a lot,
did get power in ground but still waiting for elec to hook up still 2 weeks away but aleast than i can use my lathe
but have started knocking out the dings in the tank,
russ the top bloke has found me a set of yamy yokes of a 1800 cruser of all things but take r1 sized forks so will fit my zx14r tubes ,the help that these give is that they have more offset than the kwaka(30 mm to 25mm so more trail) and are 210 or 209 fork to fork as the kwaka ones are 214 and as im useing a busa gen one rim that means i wont have to spacer the disks out to macth the centre line of the radials. as a added plus they are a lot fatter than sports bike yokes and russ is getting them cheep for me so i think thats a win lol

    Sounds good [8D]

They`re just a very good bike. Its kinda cool because everyone overlooks them. The same piece of road on the Zeph averaging 90 was easy compared to bloody hard work on the Busa at same speed. I`ve literally 1/2 a dozen jobs to finish mine.

With the new front end it looks nice and tough already, keep the updates coming mate.
Did the busa front wheel fit the ZX14 front end standard?

    thanks boys
yer lance looks better in flesh im keeping it a bit high to what most build old skool
because i have shortern the wheel base around 50 mm and the steering angle is down to 24.5ish it is allmost the stance of a early blade so that squat feel about it, i was going for flat bars or clip ons but the mx bars just seem to work in mock up with that stance
rod i wont know how much till i pick the rim up from the drags this weekend
but it will need spacers maybe bush on axle and if useing standard yokes spacers
on the disk also spacers on calipers for the change from 310 to 320 disk, nothing to bad tho i would have liked the kwaka rims but to $ when i had the back busa rim
mind you the three spoke is growing on me the more i look at them

If I was going the all out power route then yes I`d probably ditch all the vacuum pipes and valves. It would be easy enough to tap a thread in the reed valve housing holes to fit a grub screw.
It all seems a bit gimmicky tbh?

But I`m going to leave mine in for now.
The fuelling needs sorting with the new 4 into 1 and new carb filters, so I`ll take a view at that time.

    What about you ?
