    GPZ 600 project update 10/10/07.

I picked this up about a week ago and i've done some work on it. First I stripped er down and hacked off some un needed subframe, then I filled and smothed the damaged tank and chopped up the front guard a bit. Then I modded a Z1 tailpiece to fit and gave the whole lot a coat of ansett 2k black. I also extended the lower legs of the rear shock by welding tabs on, which effectively raised the back of the bike by 60mm and gave some much needed clearance, and steepened up the head angle a bit.
I re shaped the seat a little and retrimmed it red (that was the only vinyl i had) but i'm gonna cut it down some more and trim it black, the red is a little garish for my taste! Got some lights from work and fitted them today. Chopaweeza is sending me some CBR wheels and then I'll do some polishing etc. and we'll be on the road.
    Here's some pics:

Awesome work mate - You've brought the bike a long way in a short time. What are you next moves? Polished subframe and exhausts?

Not sold on your head lights tho... Can you mount them closer?

Alright if you cant, I may have a pair of Stu's austreefighter lights comming up cheap soon

Ah yes, the old Z650 duck tail saves the day again. I like the way you painted the back of the subframe to make it disappear. Have you condisered doing the whole frame? Make it go towards the Ratt Bike look. I really like Ratt bikes that are tough and this one would work. I think some flat bars on there and you have the look sorted. Never thought the old GPZ6 would shape up so well!

Thanks for the encouraging words fellas. I think I will paint the wjole subframe black, and I'm tring to find a place to hide the ignitor and a smaller brake reserviour. It's funny you mentioned the lights, they look cooler in the flesh then the pics but i do want the closer to the forks, maybe flipping the bracket will be enough?

I flipped the lights so that they mount from the top, this moved them in about 25-30 mm. I also retrimmed the seat in black vinyl. I did a quit MS paintjob to see how the frame would look black, opinions?

id ditch mounting the lights off the forks and make a mount that comes off the headstock. you will have them closer and will look better.

id leave the frame silver, too much black will hide the lines of the bike. you do need some 17" rims with decent rubber on them though. I forgot to mention i liked what you did with the mudguard as well. and good job on the seat, much better in black

You'd be suprised mate. The 840 pistons were actually within the Yamaha weight tolerence for stock 650 ones. Pulled like a train off the line....Suprised a few blokes on the then 'Latest' weapons ie Zx10's.......just ran out of chuff once they caught up...like 100 yards down the road....[)]

sent you an email damo, you can take the lot, I'd trade for some parts of use or a little cash. I was planning to offer the same deal to the wreckers anyway. Looks like my seat etc. will be up for grabs now too; I was lucky at the superbikes over the weekend...
