2005 R1 sub-frame on a 1996 blade

Not really so much of a how to, but more of a what I did

After a lot of messing about with proping the sub-frame, and getting the angle just right I was able to make templates
from a couple of bit of serial box.

I drew round them and added a few dims, so now you dont have to mess about with bits of string and stuff like that.
all you have to do is copy the template to your pix, print it off and use the dims to make your own mounting plates

When you've made the plates you'll need to drill a 10mm hole in the top of your R1 sub-frame.
This will stop it rocking, and keep the angle set just right.

The sub-frame will then sit on the frame cross member

And the bottom plates are there just to secure the whole lot and make the set-up solid

Paint em black and the job's a good-un.

So there it is then, simple as that.

A solution with no welding yet used the strength of the frame - intriguing.

Has a the last few years riding made any impact on the frame itself where it touches? Curious as this would run through my mind.

Not had any issues with any of the work I've done Si. There were a couple of things I kept an eye on, eg. tank badge circles and infills, but nothing has budged. Only thing I've had to do is service it and replace fork oil seals, and to be honest, if I kept the front wheel on the ground I wouldnt have had to replace those.
