Hey guys not sure if any of you have seen these for sale on ebay but if you do, stay away. The things are crap crap crap, work great when stopped but the motor is rubish and the wind forces it back down at any kind of law breaking speed.

Plus it was a home made piece of crap construction.

I was thinking about using a few soleniods or a cd drive stepper motor. But latch is cheaper and buying a wireless one is easier than building it.

Don't ask me where you can get one from. Just study the vid and make one yourself.

Ya better off just sticking your plate in your jacket and using 'sorry officer it fell off'.
The fines for being caught using those things are nasty,(well at least they were in the UK)

problem with the fuel cable release is that you want to be able to flip it back down without having to stop, the fines in Tas a fairly minimal, points are more important.

I know a certain someone who uses a decompression lever attached to a springloaded release.

To put the plate back down she simply reaches behind with her foot and gives the plate a little nudge.

I was toying with the idea a few years back, I'd planned to use a central locking accuater out of a car. I heard the fine was about 5K and decided against it.

My question was somewhat rhetorical.

so your saying your testing has exeeded the 174mph or they just simply dont work? [:p]

Both, it fails to flip at high speed and if it flips at a lower speed it soon falls back down as your speed increases or you hit a few bumps in the road. I've sent them an email but they've failed to reply.

Trying to think of a smart answer but it's Sunday night and I'm tired. I'm out. :)

A mate of mine had a cop grab his plate and try to twist it up and down to see if he was running a flipper. Reckons the cop damaged the mount too

Hinge and electric car aerial. power on aerial extends and holds plat up. Power off aerial retracts and voila so does the plate...

as far as I understand in Tassie they are classified the same as radar detection devices- illegal to use but not illegal to have installed in your car or bike.

i used a piano hinge for the plate and a choke cable. simple manual operation. no electric motors. no vacume lines. no bs.
