Thanks Devo, just used the basics that you sold me a while ago.....
Yeah the young fella was a bit concerned about them when he couldn't reach them.... but i guess he will have to settle for a little fifty or something a bit later on...
And i don't want to go there with the dint int he 750.... put what i thought was a good reliable rider on the bike and he puts it down on the first corner in a race. and so whilst still being in denial and refusing to accept what he did i am putting it all together agian to make it all work properly....like it used too.

Finally here are a few shots of me racing it,

As usual one of my good starts and then the usual happens from here on in, I would like to say i lead the pack and make a break, but more like i hold the pack up and slowly lose touch.......

It is all great fun tho.

What the fuck are those clowns behind you doing James?
Don't they know that as racers they are supposed to have black visors to look uber tough?

I like the Knob in full Yoshi GSXR leathers on a ZXR.
Did you pinch his bike?

Yeah i am not sure how the hell they race with the clear visors......
I spent hours in front of mirrors just to get the right look, they obviously don't have full length mirrors in their sheds.... [:I]

Yeah we all hung shit on him for it, he was racing a superstock gsxr600 but saw the light and came back to the new era class, although that is one of the superbike races.

As i promised a bit of an update on the bike, and what is done to it.

I got the bike from Devo, another lost member, a few years back. was a pretty good runner then.
Got it home played with it a little bit, just cleaned things up.
Any way i layed it over in one race and nipped up the bottom end when it starved of oil so a rebuild was wanted.
A strip of the motor showed it had a ported head, 6 speed close ratio box, not standard ratios, and a cable modified 1100 clutch.
Not a lot else. The bottom end hadn't scored the crank so a new set of bearings and back together.
It was running a Fox TwinClicker shock and who knows what in the forks.
Got a hold of a bargain on Ebay, a set of Marvics and an Ohlins Shock, not ride height adjustable tho. So in they went.
A bit more cash and i sent the forks away and got them revalved with the ohlins. Back together and racing.
Another lowside and lack of money so i put it in the shed for a while.
So I thought time for another overhaul.
New Fairings, Front brace, Dyna 2000 ignition.
Complete strip and powder coat the frame and Swingarm Satin Black. Fit up a heat shield for the Carbs and set up a total loss igniton, and rewire it.
I got a mate to do up some stickers based of a race bike i got in from the states, and painted the fairings myself.
Got it all togehter and thought it was looking pretty good.
Went racing and everything behaved well and i was moderatley fast, bonus!
Anyway got a Yoshi Air box from one of the members on here and fitted up a set of 38mm flatslides i had kicking around, and put in a fully adjustable Ohlins shock. I also bought a Mychron 4 Dash and Data logger.
Went out again and on a new track comparing myself to the other New Era guys that are racing(Ducati F1, Cbr900, ZXR) I am about 4 Seconds off the pace, but i think it is not too bad as it was about a year off the bike between rides.
Things i want to finish on it are the Exhaust, it sits very low and hence the reason why the Belly Pan got chopped up. I think it is of a 1127 motor, and i am running a 1052.
I want to stuff around with a few different types of motor rebuilds, big bore 750's, to try and put the height of the motor down a bit, maybe get a fuel cell going rather than the steel tank, and try and improve oiling to the head and the whole oil cooling setup. Thinking a couple of oil coolers, one under the tail and another 2 up front........
Oh and a quick shift kit, i am sure there is a heap of other stuff but it is not too bad at the moment, i should probably just get out and race it.

Shit suspension or suspension setup and maybe a bit to heavy handed at the throttle/brake transition on the apex.......... maybe

Yes the shed, it was looking pretty good for a while, then i bought a business and it has turned into a wharehouse with about half the room for bikes :(

Trying to reclaim space at the moment and put some time back into playing with bikes

What tyres do you run

DCRacing
22-01-2013, 08:38 AM
when i was having troubles i was using new Bridgestone slicks, i never really got comfortable with them. had a couple of pirelli rears which were ok better than the bridgestones but nothing spectacular.
I am using Dunlop N-Tech supersport tyres at the moment and absolutley loving them, massive feel and feedback. even to the end.
2nd hand tho so i am always a bit suspect on them, but haven't had any issues so far.
they run some crazy pressures, 22 or so rear and 28 front i think, can't remember i have it written down somewhere, really low anyway.
Hoping to get out to Morgan Park in feb, will see how everything goes, i should be playing with a new bike by then as well......... :D

with the suspension, i did a training day and found the comprssion to be too stiff, the front tyre was doing all the work. So that was probably a major factor.

Deano, Was the change from the 1100 to the 600 massive? lap times etc went up by heaps? should i just get with the times and get late model racer?

Deano
23-01-2013, 02:31 PM
Yes big difference. Mostly brakes, weight, power (lack of it on a 600) and having a starter motor is so good

Yep the race bike is back on the bench, Just getting the wiring all soldered up so it can't fail (or at least less likely to fail) when it is raining.

While i am at it i decided to expand the dash on the bike to a GPS based camera and data logger.
It will be interesting to see just how bad a rider i am. Just got to fit it up a little discreetly and hope i don't destroy it the first time i bin it.

Shit that turned out all right
your not hanging around are you James lol

DCRacing

I will be happy when i drop another 3 seconds, at the moment i can only crack about 2-3 laps before i am exhausted. I think the issue is the throttle weight. I have a quick turn throttle tube on a set of Mikuni RS carbs which makes it really heavy and does not do much for throttle control, hence it is all a bit ham fisted. If i can get the throttle lighter and get a few laps under my belt i reckon 1:24s are possible, but it is going.

Any thing in the 120's at Morgan park isn't slack
Mind you some of the boys get down to the mid teens?

DCRacing
20-02-2013, 08:37 AM
yes but they are fast...... lol

The lap record for the group i race with is 1:21.8 or something like that, set on a Ducati F1 bitsa. But he is bloody fast.
He is trying out a FZR1000 this season, i hope he finds it as hard as the rest of us, to muscle these bikes around.

That data logger thing is great. Spent more time watching that than the track.

DCRacing
20-02-2013, 08:46 AM
Mate you should see the rest of the data that i have to try and understand. I think the program is where the issue is, it is an Italian based program, I am slowly finding my way around it. It has some really cool features and analysis of the data.

The vid setup is the best tho, i have to reprogram the scale of the measurements and try and get the gear indicator working but other than that it is really good.

fimpBIKES

really really cool stuff, and good pace too!
are the "throttle" and "brake" based on the g's or are there seperate inputs for sensors?

DCRacing
20-02-2013, 01:49 PM
got a pressure sensor on the front brake, and a TPS for the throttle, i tapped a thread in the shaft on the Mikunis and ran it of that.
other than that it should calculate the gear position for me but is not co-operating.
as i said i need to reset the max-min on the sensors tho.
I will try and get some screen shots of the data analysis screens.
