firstly im no pro stunter, far from it!!!
alot of people learning to wheelie are nervous of balance points and flipping[understandabley] imho ive found standing on the pillion pegs and doing wheelies in 2nd or 3rd gear helped my confidence. it lowers the center of gravity like fuck!! it feels a bit crazy at first but alot easier maintaining the balance point than when sitting down!![}:)]

yeah m8 . most people find that riding staggered ie: left foot on the pillion peg is heaps easier to learn wheelies .
i have been a stunt rider for a bit over a year now and i dont reckon i have ever done a staggered wheelie ever lol

As for foot on the back peg i think its just to put your weight over the back wheel.

if you need to start wheelies practice on a dirt bike, get the feeling, i think people that start on the street generally would be too scared of dropping their bike. Unless you have a bike just for stunting.

On any sunday a movie from the 70's malcolm smith put one foot on the seat and said he could ride a sherpa T for miles on the back wheel , I tried the same thing on my honda 750 4 and my mates 500 4 after watching the movie and found it worked great and gave me good control.

ive just been trying this. after a real mix of bikes so far i really havent put enought time into learning this skill and all my bikes have such different power delivery.

i4 250 -> single 800 -> single 510 -> i4 600 -> 2stroke single 300 -> twin 1125.

I have the ability to get every bike ive had (including the missus dr400 and drz250) up pretty easy but keeping it there is the problem.

just started playing with the buell. i can get it up high enough with seated 2nd gear roll ons and staggered 3rd gear roll ons.

but I really need to practice getting it up more consistantly and smoothly as im still a 15meter wonder. :(

I wish I spent more time learning on my crapper bikes as I would hate to bin the buell.

Anyway I'm taking it slow but I find 2nd and even 3rd gear easier as its more stable with little amounts of throttle having less effect.

Any tips to keeping it up longer? I know the answer is practice and take it slow, but it sucks having nowhere quiet in the inner south east :P

viagra?

practise mate, and more practise. if its not staying up there, its not high enough.
anything will wheelie(have a video of me riding a zzr250 at balance point with standard everything)

and use the clutch to get it up, much more controlled than just power.

as for distance, once you get the feel for it you can go as far as you want and start to steer etc. had a ride yesterday and was comfortably doing a couple of kays @100kph, just needed a longer smooth bit of road!

I recon learn on a dirt bike up a grassy hill. Then learn to cover the back brake after you realise you cant run as fast as a dirt bike in second gear (I did this).

Also learn to look around before popping one on the streets. If there is a cop about, think again. I have found they dont give you a thums up. In fact, they are very hard to impress...

whenever i come down from a staggered / pillion peg wheelie i get mad tank slappering.

it there any theories to what causing it. to much weight transfer? to much speed differnce between road and front wheel?

scares the fuck out of me.

how fast are you going when youre putting the front wheel down?

if youre shutting the throttle and coming down hard youl get slappers, try and put it down gently by using the throttle before the front wheel touches down and see what happens

try and get a mate to film if you can, no point having a massive accident and not getting it on film hahaha

lol. nice. stand ups are 3rd gear power bouncers so probably landing at close to $1.30-1.40 yeah i figure its that im dropping them too hard.

its much easier on the motard, siting down i can just keep blipping the throttle and keeping it up reasonably ok
