Hey fight fans !
Just after some constructive comments. This is my first build and it's taking forever. Spent ages trying to find a look I like. I have a bandit 12 as the donor, R1 arse end, Busa forks and polished rim, Tick Tock 6 pots and yes, that is a RS250 seat cowl pretending to be a headlight pod. Your thoughts and advice would be a great help.
P.S. Any advice on wiring would be a help in the future. (Struggling a bit with it).

Cheers.

looks great so far mate...
The headlight shroud is an awesome idea real original thinking

Just make sure you give it a paint job that will do justice to your work

It'd look really cool if you mount the lights recessed into the pod, then put perspex or whatever over it and paint it so they look hidden until you turn them on.

that looks fucking great mate and from one bandit owner to another i reckon you chose wisely for the base of your bike there is a huge range of aftermarket parts avail for them and the motors are almost bullet proof mate ohh and welcome to the nuthouse

I,m sittin here spewin i idnt think of a old tail for a front. A little bit of bashin and a bit of twistin and that will look a trick a hell front.... oh n hello 2 ....

Hey Kato. Kinda liked the arse about idea. Had twin spots on her and looked like every bugger elses fighter. Looked on loads of european sites for ideas then spotted a benelli cafe racer and remembered some bits I had in the shed. I'm determined to do as much of the build myself so don't want to buy "off the shelf" kit. Stubborn Yorkshire twat, can't help myself.

30-12-2008, 10:39 PM
welcome mate, for a first time build you have done just fine.it always impresses me that the fighters always have a go at the big stuff front ends, tails dashes.its a far cry from just bolting on some chrome and calling it custom. good on you man looks like you got the bug

OLD SKOOL BANDIT
30-12-2008, 10:55 PM
Thanks to all of you for the support, always good to get positive feedback from other builders. The Aprillia arse stays up front. Looking forward to hooking up with some of you sooner rather than later to talk shit and get messed up. Thanks again.

Welcome. That looks good. great idea. I think it needs to be shorter, but fuckin ace

OLD SKOOL BANDIT
31-12-2008, 08:16 AM
Hey Scotty. Which end needs cutting mate ? Just bear in mind I'm 6'2" and don't want to dwarf the thing by chopping the arse down too much. Kinda thought it looked a bit "Kat" like. Just an up to date version of a classic zuki.

scotty
31-12-2008, 09:04 AM
na I ment the front (just my opinion) in the photo it looks like it sticks out to far

BANDITROD
31-12-2008, 09:15 AM
now you have said that scotty i reckon leave it that length and just lower it by 75-100mm i am assuming you have it like that to cover the gauges which is good in theory but (IMO) always ruins the look of your bike but thats just my two cents worth to show you what i mean here is a pic of my bandit

G`day OLD SKOOL, i see you`ve got a busa front end on,what drammers did you have with triple clamps and the likes of when setting uo your front end?

OLD SKOOL BANDIT
31-12-2008, 01:01 PM
Now that is just 'kin stunning Rod ! Love the polished caseings and clutch window. Did you source the braced swinger here or import it from O/S ? How did you hide the wiring, (Starter relay, bliker and side stand relays)?

As for the Busa forks John, no problems at all. Just removed the bearing races, and used an hydrolic press to push the stem out of both lower clamps and substitute the Busa one for the Bandit one. Fit new bearings, (Bandit ones obviously), packed with grease and refitted. Only hiccups were:- Steering stops. Had to weld new stop to frame. Top clamp. Had a brass bush turned up to remove any play. Ignition switch, had to rheem out hole so bandit switch lined up with Busa holes.
Hope that makes sense and helps.(Bear in mind I have not ridden it yet but it promises to be 'kin awsome)

31-12-2008, 01:09 PM
welcome mate, good to see you thinking so far outside the square

OLD SKOOL BANDIT

Ok Rod & Scotty, I took both bits of advice on board and cut back the pod and dropped it by 3". You may have been right but I will of course deny this in any future conversation. I made the cut outs for the lamps and found an old Iridium visor which may work as a screen as Mitch suggested.

Cheers boys. I've finally come to the conclusion that I can't do electrics ! can anyone point me in the direction of a bike sparky who won't rip my throat out on cost ? Can't move on until I get her running and can position the relays etc. Then I can get RWC and dump the ignition lose big indicators and mirrors etc. Hanging to ride her again and dump the fireblade. Anyone ?!?

Welcome aboard mate. For a first build you are showing some amazing talent, what's your trade?
As for sparky's, get in with the Melbourne boys. What area are you in? Call Brad and the lads from Bikecraft (www.bikecraft.net.au) if you're local to Mentone and tell them you're and ASF member, they'll help you out.

Cheers Si, will contact the bikecraft boys although I'm nowhere near Mentone they may know someone near me in the Northern Suburbs.

Oh, and I'm a chippy by trade with no real mechanical knowledge. Just a pile of SF mags, a large bottle of Jack and some spare time.

He currently has my ZXR RR in his garage & is making a total loss race wiring loom for it, after that he'll be doing all the wiring for Deano's EFI Turbo Gixer, I'll get him drunk this weekend & talk him into looking at your Bandit Bryn.

After talking with TIMBO at the weekend, the idea of an instrument pod fitted to the tank of my bike was thrown around. This bugged me all the way home so thought I would give it a go just for shits and giggles. This is what I came up with.
http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/upload/83328554863012.jpg
http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/upload/83328554863439.jpg
http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/upload/83328554871276.jpg

There is some filling and cutting to shape and sanding to do but you get the idea !?! Not sure if I like it myself but will bat on until it either gets to a shape I like or gives me the right shits.

OLD SKOOL BANDIT
28-01-2009, 09:29 AM
Not sure if this should go into the "Tips & Tricks" section or if it has been posted before but here goes. To get the correct shape to fit the tank, I smeared vasaline, (Stole it from BANDITROD), over the tank and then laid aluminium foil over the area I was going to mould from. The vaseline holds the foil in place while the glass is applied. It takes a little while to lay the foil, making sure air is pressed out and the creases are minimum. Don't work it too hard or the foil will tear. (Captain obvious moment). After 3 layers of glass had cured, I made up a "Skeleton" from 1.5mm ali whith cutout to suit the Acewell dash and a hole in the back for the wiring. I then laid on more layers of fibre glass. Will post more pics as it happens. Sorry for no "as it happened" pics, I had sticky fingers !
