Remember this, well just started stage 2, could'nt leave well enough alone, so the plans are K7 front end with radial brakes,1" bars with internal throttle, bars will be drilled to take small button latching switchs instead of standard switchgear, the bandit 600 engine removed and fitted an 1127 gsxr and loom, vfr wsinger, and hope too modify the take too take the acewell spedo, so should be fun,,

Top bit of engineering matey, that looks the dogs bollocks.

Its the exact swing arm I brought for my Blade that wouldnt fit. Its interesting to know it will adapt to go into a Bandit though.

Anyone in the UK intrested in doing the same drop me a line, I still have the arm in my work shop.

TheBogyman

Done some of the smaller shitty jobs we all hate doing, tidyed the wiring, lengthened a few others, welded the exhaust headers which had a couple of cracks, got the side casings finished and fitted, filled the engine with oil, got the dyna coils and taylor leads fitted/wired and got the engine cranking over, got the calipiers fitted, and brackets measured for the front fender, loads done, but no big changes,, so nothing worth taking a photo for,, the batterys on the charge, i am for the auto shop too look for a car wheel for the rear, thats the plan, if i can get something i like between the 6"-7" wide range, then ill go for it, need to decide on the swing arm wether too polish it (original plan) or maintance free powder coat it black,,,what think yea fella's,,which one will it be,,,

+1 for the powder coat, think a massive lump of polished metal might look out of place with the rest of your bike, and on the upside next to fuck all maintance,

top workmanship by the way, i love build threads with the detailed photo shots

dave_isbald
21-11-2008, 02:38 PM
PC for sure. With that frame it will look fucking smoking - like its all designed to fit seamlessly together rather than a frame and a swing arm that look shit hot but cleary are from seperate bikes. It'll be unique without a doubt. Awesome job

21-11-2008, 04:30 PM
If you're actually gunna ride the thing PC for sure

Ran into bother with the downpipes tonight, the gsxr1100 headers are a mess to link to the small underbelly can i had fitted with the bandit 6 engine, the gixer headers are fouling all over the show, hitting the oil cooler lines, hitting the frame, and are nowhere near where they need to be too tie into the end can, just spent the better part of the day getting the sand blasted and treated with heat resistant black,, looks like ebay again for a set of b12 headers, i think these would be easier to modify to take the end can that the gixer ones i have here,,,anyone for a gixer 1100 system,,,headers, linkpipe and end can :o(,,also spotted an oil leak, and went overboard ith the 19mm wrench,,,busted the fitting,,,so all in all a bad day,,,time to throw the cover over her until next weekend,,,and live to fight another day,,,any of you guys gimmie some options on the exhaust,,,am i right in thinking the b12 would be a better option clearence ways,,,

TheBogyman
09-01-2009, 05:17 AM
right!!!we're off and running again,, got the headers sorted, all but made up from scrach, engines running, brakes bleed, and swinger and some parts left too the powder coaters, might be ready tomorrow, if so, ill get the swinger in, and a few pictures loaded, think the worst is over for now, as for the tank and switch mods, i am leaving them until next winter, totally maxed out with this build,,,heads pickeled,,,check back for pic updates over the weekend,,,,

Ok some pisc as promised, this is the nightmare job, where i had to tie the headers off the 1100 into the underbelly can, had'nt a lot too work with, but its finished, and ready for heat resistent paint,,had to extend the headers away from the engine to clear the frame, again, arsehole of a job,,,

http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/upload/81094687981943.jpg

i had the guy from the auto shop call with a wheel and we took some measurements and worked out the possibility of going for a car wheel, but 7" was a non starter as it was too far off center, you can see the center line!! so we decided too get a custom wheel made, we made some arrangements and he was to call again, and lift the measurments,,,but alass the guy never appeared, tried too call hime but he's not returning my calls, so decided too go with a vfr wheel in the meantime, thats with the powder coaters at the minute, should be ready today,,

Dave, thats looking fantastic fella. The thing I found out with my back wheel, when it went in was as standard, the biggest tyre I could get on a VFR 5.5J hoop was a 180 section, and even that is close to the chain mate. Fighter MC said to me he could get his hands on a spacer kit to fit a car wheel on, and has the long studs you need to shift the wheel over. Frank is a really nice bloke mate, drop him a line.

TheBogyman
10-01-2009, 04:04 AM
Hey frank, whats happening mate, wots the crack with the spacer, i was going to stick a new 190 i have sitting here with low milage, if its too close too the chain i was going to machine a spacer, but would need the longer studs, ill stick it all together mate, and see where we go from there, but yea again, if you have the bits i am interested, the car wheel is still on the cards, but if i go over the 6" mark its another machining session, (swinging arm)and dont want that, this time when she's togother, they will be no more big projects, (unless maybe engine rebore),and tank modifying, but thats next winter, i did get an engineering firm who specialise in wheel refurbishing, they can take an inch out of a 7" and leave it 6", so might look at that, but it would be ropey experiance bombing down the north coast at 3 digts with a welded rear wheel, so the jurys still out on that one,,went to the powder coaters this afternoon too collect the wheel, swinger and some other bits and bobs, but left without the swinger, they guys made a decent job, but there was some pitting on the alloy before and it showed up really badly when it was coated, so they are blasting it on monday, and i am for lying into it with a sander, and maybe some fillers, so pretty gutted, wanted it on wheels tomorrow, but its not happening now, its better too have it done right, than every time i look at it ill get totally pissed i didnt redo it,,,enough for now,,,pphheeewww!!

Took me from 2pm last Thursday to get home to Oz from the French Alps - got home Monday morning. My sleep patterns have gone birko, waking up crazy early.

I thought you'd changed something behind the carbs, but just now realise it's purely the swinger + colour change that gives a major difference in perception of negative space in that area. Interesting, and tops at the same time.

Lucas - he's already got that in his "To Do List" I think.

Ran into a spot of bother when i went too fit the side casing over the sprocket, because i alined the chain by spacing out the front sprocket 5mm, the casing is now hitting the sprocket, so need to space the casing out by 6mm, and extend the clutch piston rod by the same ammount, hope it works, but i'm not talking scary digits here so should be ok with the likes of 6mm, or has someone any other sujections i would like too hear them,,stil a fw ods and ends too sort out before the run up the road,,

CBRRRT
29-01-2009, 05:25 AM
Orange tape "YIP" but take a look at the flame job on your tank, its yellow tiped with orange. Perhaps the front wheel yellow and the rear orange, would that work?

Dave, when you had your swing arm powder coated did you have to remove all the barings because of the heat process or was it ok to leave them in.

Did matey say if you have your header and lower zorst powder coated, when they get hot does the surface get tacky or does it stay hard.

Check out the suxy frame plugs on this site mate, a nice touch.
