I noticed there are a few guys on here interested in 1400's so I thought I'd post a picture of my bike. I built everthing myself, I'll post more details if anyone is interested. It's a K6 totaly standard except for the late model Rb20 Skyline turbo and associated parts, No bling here sorry. I finished it about 3 weeks ago.

The bike is loud, I'm going to fit a muffler when I get my tax back, but the Turbo quietens it down quite a bit. It's a little louder at idle than when the bike had a yoshi full system and stumpy yoshi muffler. I wanted to build it up as stock as possible. I'm trying to sit on the boundaries of streetfighterdom and in doing so stand out from the crowd. There are plenty of fiber/plastic kitted 1400's out there. I still have to paint the induction tubing and plenum. I'm going to paint them factory black with the slight metallic flake. I was going to powder coat that stuff but it will be easier to touch up if I do it in 2 pac.
Anyway, The bike has never been on a dyno and probably never will, I tune it with an Innovate Motorsports A/F Monitor and datalogger and it works a treat. It's running 7 Psi at the moment which is plenty until I get used to the power. The boost comes on at 3000rpm and above 40% throttle opening so it rides like a standard bike until you crank it. I went for the big turbo because these things have PLENTY of grunt down low so turbo lag is non-existant. It's a hoot to ride and the closest thing to compare it to is a ZX14/busa on song but at half the rpm.
The Specs on the system are as follows:
4 into 2 into 1 steam pipe turbo manifold(made that way due to tight packaging)
Alloy Plenum (6mm thick!!) and integrated GFB BOV(not pictured yet)
Stainless Steel piping which runs under bike, through swingarm and into bottom of plenum.
PC3 USB with multi function hub and GM 2 bar map sensor
RB20 Ceramic BB Turbo(Good for about 300hp at the wheel)
Rb20 turbo injectors(20% bigger than stock)
Exhaust was made by my mate Stuart At Racers Choice because I could not be bothered making it myself and his work is top notch.
I Ran out of cash so the exhaust is only half finished I'm going to finish it off with a 12inch long supercatt muffler(they are cheap but look trick)
I've probably forgoten some stuff but that's the basics.

Thanks for the positive feedback Guys!!

Nice... Looks very tidy, good size turbo going by the revs it comes in at
I used those turbo's on a 750 several yrs ago but couldn't get much life out of them and eventually went to the non ceramic wheel/plain bearing type, i think it depends on just how much use the turbo has had previously, mine were most likely hi milage ..

awesome can u turbo a triple[?]

turbogsx
22-09-2008, 05:17 PM
I've seen a turbo speed triple 1050 in a magazine, they just bought a kit. A Triple would be great to turbo but generaly the more cylinders you have for a given capacity the better, since you can spool up a bigger turbo faster. My mate wants me to turbo his TL1000R But I don't think a twin would be any good to turbo since the exhaust pulses are so far apart, And then there is the packaging problems with the "V" configuration.

On a side note I took the 1400 for 100km ride on the weekend and with the open exhaust I get way too much attention, I need a muffler.

Tripples turbo fine, twins work ok too.
narrower engines get harder to fit it all in and look as tidy ,

latest update:
Fuel system has been upgraded with a new fuel rail and aeromotive regulator.
Bike has been on the dyno and was making 150hp & 125 ft/lbs @ 4psi. The boost has been cranked up to 11 psi or so and the clutch is now slipping at 180hp & 150ft/lbs. The torque curve is fat and flat. Super heavy duty clutch springs are coming and i'll be able to post the final results soon.

Bike now has a good turbo(third one was a charm) and is making 190hp and 150ft/lbs. Have run a best of 10.5 @ 133mph launching in second gear with a 1.9 sec '60 so there is plenty more in her.

Hey Turbogsx, that realy is an impressive piece of work, especially considering youve done it yourself, just a couple of questions.. your welded clutch.did you weld the back torque limiter in the clutch hub....with your data logging any signs of detonation?... the horsepower and torqe figures are realy impressive.are you worried about stock rods..will you intercool the bike now your boost is getting up there...the reason for my many questions is that i just purchased a gsx14 wreck and have found out after .that this bike is one of three that phil tainton built to the same specs as the bike he built for Rapid bike magazine.1620 je pistons yoshi cams and head work.im only going to drag race it as it was a stat write off.it can never be re registered.thanks for posting your bike.keep us informed..morry

Morry after riding the Rapid 1400 at Dubbo i would have to say it was one most impressive NA bike , Just loads of grunt... and no lag ;)

Turbogsx any updates ?

My clutch is welded up like normal, just the BTL is jammed up. It also has 3 +100% springs and 3 HD springs. The clutch used to slip at 140ft/lbs now it copes with 150 ft/lbs, 2nd gear launches and my 105kg+gear frame. I would love to have a 1620 just for the stealth factor. I have pulled the plugs and there is no sign of detonation and you can't hear any on the dyno. I'm probably running 9-10 pounds boost but I've never had a boost gauge on it. I know my inlet piping is not ideal and costs a little HP but aesthetically i'm very happy with it. I've just put a pilot power PR2 on the back and I'm considering streching it ang going 3 up on the rear. I also want to fit a set of cams. Other than that I'm very happy with the way it rides. BTW it weighs 250kg full of fuel.

I had one on my 750 until 6 weeks ago when the ceramic wheel shattered into a thousand pieces. I now went back to a T25 with the steel wheel.

Also, you seem to have picked up the half a second in the first half of the track. Since going to 202hp up from 190, the MPH has remained the same at 133mph. Could it be that you are just getting more used to it and getting the 60' and 330' down pat now..? The extra 12 hp should have increased the MPH by at least 3 or 4.

turbogsx
25-02-2010, 08:59 PM
The bike ran a 10.001 @ 139 mph. it also ran a 10.3 @ 140 mph so she is hooking up a bit better at the top end of the track. Only problem now is the gearbox is jumping out of gear so i will have to do some major work there. Looks like a 9 is a few months away now.

26-02-2010, 08:42 AM
Ahhh very good. I was just going on the timeslip shown above in this post. 140mph is definately a good increase then over the 133. Looks like a backcut gearbox cluster is in order for you. Is it 2nd gear that is causing the trouble..?

Booster
26-02-2010, 02:02 PM
Who does do gears in NSW ?? In QLD the is Joe M if you can get a spot in his busy schedule, Vic has Bruce at Powerflow
Probably something that Ben could do quite easily.

It's jumping out of first and second. I softened up the rear by a notch each side and fitted a much better tyre. Tried the straps for 2 runs then took them off to try to load the rear tyre up a bit more. With Jamie Bezzina on board the bike ran a 1.6 '60 and popped out of first. With my 110kg on board the thing doesn't have a chance. Looks like the gearbox has to be done but after that i don't want to spend any more money on it or else i may as well sell the thing and buy a 7 second outlaw bike.

Booster
28-02-2010, 06:47 AM
Be sure it jumped out of gear and not just jumping teeth on the front sprocket, if your swingarm travel on hard launches allows it to push the swingarm beyond horizontal the chain is beyond its tightest point and continues to get looser as the swingarm gets further from horizontal (like in the last pic above) ,
Check your chain tension,it will need to be nearly tight at rest as it will not need the slack to allow for the swingarm to travel toward its furtherest point from the front sprocket , if you can compress the rear till the swingarm is at horizontal you can adjust the chain to piano string tight without causing damage .
i have had this on occasion with my long swingarms and usually you feel it middle to top of first gear and does feel nearly the same as jumping out of gear (had that too , and needed to undercut the gears to fix)

turbogsx
13-04-2010, 10:40 PM
Have the gearbox apart now, has a bent shift fork and chipped the edge off the 1st and 2nd gear dogs so the gearbox is off to be undercut. 4/5/6 gears are going to be replaced with 'busa items as they have a weird dog setup.

Hope to post some good numbers in a few weeks.

I had the alloy "Shocks" to lower the bike, now it's lowered properly they have gone in the bin. I'm actually going to buy a pair of risers for the street. It's a bit too low to be practical on the street now.
