Seeing i'm building this bike up from std in a fairly short time frame i thought i'd document it somewhat here.
Plan is to build a landspeed Srad model gsxr 750 here, then buy a bike in the US , carry or send the parts to the US bike, spend up to a week modifying the bike then racing at Bonnevilles bike only event on 2-7 Sept and the World of speed event several weeks later.

Fastest anyone has gone on a turbocharged 750 is 209 mph .I'm going to build aiming at 230mph, thats going to take 300hp and some improved aerodynamics and still unlikely i will achieve the targetfor any number of reasons no 1 being traction... But Aim for the moon ... never know how high you may actually get...

First week or so has been spent on the turbo .

Robbed this pic from another guys site, i have brought one of these tail fairings from Airtech in the US , its supposably good for ~10 mph but some have had handling probs when using these . figure at worst i can put the std tail back on .

Its a 1/2 kamm desigh which pretty well puts the air back behind you without too much turbulance, you use nearly as much power from the suction behind you as you do punching a hole in the air in the first place .

All praise the gods of speed - Good luck Booster - this is going to be a goodie :D

11-06-2008, 09:16 AM
What's the idea of having the turbo slightly offset to the left (as we see it) like that? Centralizing weight? Clearance issues? I thought that with exhausts that the more equal length all the headers are the easier it is to tune?
Wow that's a lot of questions...sorry bout that.:D

Todays effort was to clean up the inside of the headers, begin modifying the compressor housing to suit the up pipe, and picked up the exhaust housing i will be using after having the internal wastgate removed so i can fit an external wastegate for better control
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v378/maj750/DSC02002.jpg
Thanks for the well wishing guys :)gunna need a bit for this to all come together in time..
Bullfrog , mainly want clearance on the inlet so i can connect the turbo inlet to the ram air, don't want holes in the fairing for aircleaners or exhaust and i can get clean air from the ram air , anywhere else will be full of salt ..
Good eye for your Guzzi's Ken.
12 argh yep Bones/Ev's R1 has a similar tail , it runs consistantly 10 mph faster than a std R1 and has a hp disadvantage due to the complex exhaust, Bones made that himself and 1 for me that i will be using to setup the Aussie testbike
Local garage has offered to help with fabrication stuff, he has connections with the a ford race team , within reason he will pay for them to make it , about the only thing left is the decompression plate which i will happily take his offer on :D

Apparently the current record holder did this too , 20 psi seems to be a limit
going to put some water inj into it to reduce the chance of this happening again
Getting more done

Yeh helmet cam would be great.
Are you shedding any weight personally for this? ;)

Booster
18-07-2008, 11:00 PM
Clint it fits fine under the fairing, wheel clearance and suspension movement is more an issue, figure if the suspension is bottomed out and i'm at full lock i'm already buggered

I'll have to find somewhere in the fairing to embed a camera,
If anyone saw 60 mins a couple of years ago when they did the salt lakes coverage of the Silverton Hotel bike and a bit on some cars, there was a brief helmet cam shot, that was me, bloody camera gave me head wobbles and tried to rip the helmet off my head, i was thinking at the time they will only use this footage if i make it good , so i made it good... but very much on the edge of control...

Arrive sunday 24th midday and race 2nd Sept , Friend over there has offered a couple of rooms in his house , some shed space and tow vehicles.i'm thinking when its all done i will leave the bike with him till next year and he can race it if he wants till his landspeed bike is finished (a 100CI turbo buell)

Doesn't seem like 20 days since the last update
If you missed the dyno Vic thread, the clutch gave up at 18 psi peak torque 9600 rpm and best run (first ) at 190hp .
Lots of time spent on clutch and engine managers , now logged a run (on a longer wheelbase so its not so hectic) at 27 psi boost to 13500 rpm, clutch holding better than the drag slick, air fuel steady at 11.3-11.5 (just where i want it) 98% duty cycle on the injectors..
Figure thats it for the tune.[8D]
Boxing the turbo kit etc up tomorow and sending it Monday
Not long now... Going to get an internet capable "cell" (learning the lingo ) to keep in contact while i'm there
If anyone is not totally bored with my ramblings updates will be available of records and interesting happenings on http://www.landracing.com/ of the bike only meet 2-7 sept and World of speed 17-20 Sept and maybe even something from the El Mirage dirt drylake n Sept 14 ..

Thanks all
This has all come together way better than i could have realy expected considering the time frame to build the bike
Put my Mate Jim on the bike once i had set the record in blown gas and changed to a blown fuel class (no fuel restrictions like the gasclass), after all we did invade his workshop and house, he ran a 211 first pass ever on a turbo 4 cyl (holds a record on a turbo Buell) but we lost the up pipe hose on the backup for a 163 mph, Went back out the next day and he ran 214 backed with a 219 for a 217 record. worked out well
We have run out of gearing, geared for 230 mph and wheelslip % is going to limit us to 220 or so....next step is to clearance for a 18 tooth front and turn the boost up, last runs were at 16 psi, lots more left
Back in Cal now to check the bike out and prepare for the next race at El Mirage on the 14th
thats going to bemore like a 1.25 mile dragrace on the dirt.
Pics thing isn't working well from here i'll try and get some done tonite..slow wireless and a computer i'm not so familiar with..

Ran at El Mirage a dirt drylake, different, but the surface chopped up and traction reduced rapidly, licencing meant i would not have had a chance to go fast so Jim ran and had a 188 mph pass on a 1.3 mile track, wheelspinning wildly in 5th then bogging into 6th..
Off to Bonne again tomorrow, more boost and taller gearing :D
