HI guys..

not been around for a few months. drop in from time to time to check out the bikes being built.

thought it was about time I posted an update.

since I last posted I've pissed about buying parts, selling em again and buying some more.

finally got my shit together last Saturday

started with this..

http://i74.servimg.com/u/f74/12/34/60/76/p1511012.jpg

then did this

http://i74.servimg.com/u/f74/12/34/60/76/p1511013.jpg

then fitted the yokes off the blade ( backwards) so I could fit bars to push it around ( no,...not having renthals!!)

http://i74.servimg.com/u/f74/12/34/60/76/p1511025.jpg

then put a gsxr wheel in just to get it moving ( using ZX10r wheels!)

http://i74.servimg.com/u/f74/12/34/60/76/p1511029.jpg

then took it outside for some air

http://i74.servimg.com/u/f74/12/34/60/76/p1511030.jpg

http://i74.servimg.com/u/f74/12/34/60/76/p1511031.jpg

http://i74.servimg.com/u/f74/12/34/60/76/p1511034.jpg

then played with a few seat units...

http://i74.servimg.com/u/f74/12/34/60/76/p1511038.jpg

http://i74.servimg.com/u/f74/12/34/60/76/p1511039.jpg

not sure about the R6 one...got some more to try

http://i74.servimg.com/u/f74/12/34/60/76/p1511040.jpg

http://i74.servimg.com/u/f74/12/34/60/76/p1511042.jpg

so...good day
and I have more pics of the steering head for yantosh..top yoke should be on the way soon ( in between his Turbo bits he's making for his phat gixxer  )

I know you might have seen this on other forums...but I'm bored watching TV and thought I'd spam the entire world wide web!

I showed a customer of mine the photo's of your build to a customer that wanted a cool bike built out of his wrecker 1050 Triumph and he went banana's . Imitation is the most sincerest form of flattery so if he can do a deal with his insurer to get the wreck of his bike back I'll be copying that Spondon frame of yours in 32mm CDS2 for his Triumph . Very tasty build you have going indeed .

It's something I [u]really</u> want to do . As the customer has a super tight budget I agreed to build the frame for Cost + 10% to test the waters with it. If all goes to plan will start sometime in February . It boils down to whether the insurer clearing the claim and allowing him to buy it back . But they have set a date in January for it to be settled by so I'm hopeful. Only ever built one like that before and it was primitive compared to work I've done lately so I'd like to test my skills by making one like this . Even with the photo's to go off it is by no means an easy task or a simple one. Most pieces have a bend and some have several making it a 3D jigsaw . With some fundamental differences in the running gear I think it should turn out OK . Have to make some additions to my existing frame jig but I enjoy a challenge . Time wise it should be the more hours building then any other frame I've done so far. I just hope the owner can cut a deal with the Insurer so I can get it done.

Sorry to hijack the thread RB .

radiobloke
18-03-2009, 07:46 AM
RIGHT....here goes....

picked up the engine...had a good natter to the guy selling it...ex racers can always talk bollocks for hours!

got the engine home...mate comes round to buy the GSXR1000 and gives me a lift out of the car with it.....and takes the gixxer home ( yey, more cash and space!)

so...dropped the blade engine out...lifted the frame over the bird engine..."sweet"...me thinks...top end slots between the rails..."brilliant!!!"

then I lower the back of the frame....and try to line up the engine mounts..."BOLLOCKS!!!!"

the rear mounts don't line up,...or rather I can't get them close as the engine mount by the head fouls the engine case.

tried all sorts of different ways...but the frame wont fit without some frame mods...removing the engine mounts and re positioning them.

for referance, and to make sure I wasnt missing anything...I think ...I'll drop the blade frame over it...

I thought the cbr900 frame might be twisted..
f**k me ...its been squished to buggery!...but we knew thatmight be a problem. so I can't use that for the left over blade engine.

SO...I had a plan...blackbird spondon..and a blade turbo...but thats kinda shot to **** now.

the last 3 days have been spent pondering weither or not I should cut and weld the Spondon frame....basically I can't...I can't do it and risk the frame twisting or making a bodge of it...just can't bring myself to do it.

well,....all is not lost...I still have a Spondon blade to build...and on the shelf I have an awesome motor for my next build...a blackbird fighter!!

just got to work out which one gets the turbo!! lol!

radiobloke
23-03-2009, 01:24 AM

bird engines go in a blade frame...you need to remove a bit of the frame and redo the engine mounts on the head.

can't bring myself to cut the Spondon when I can have 2 bikes rather than one. and a tuned single side blackbird will be cool enough alongside a turbo spondon blade!!

and...who the fuck is Rob??

its the same swingarm...one side has a cross bar as it has the chain etc...also for strength

thanks yantosh, i know shit 'bout the international classification of alloy grades and use that:

http://www.duccutters.com/aluminum.tpl

but there's no 7020 there [?], praps 7075? but its not welding, and welding is what i meant askin'bout the frame ;) high grade alloys can't be welded, coz alloying elements burn out, a metal structure's damaged, so the welding can't be reliable... as far as i know

That's why 7020 is used, it is a high strength alloy specifically designed to retain most of its strength after welding.
