I heard about this a month ago and thought fuck yeah. It's riding road bikes on a flat track for fun not racing. So I entered my Gixer but super sports not aloud so now I have some work ahead of me. I have my dads old 82 GSX 1100 ez, hasn't been going for at least six years, I now have about 3 weeks to get it ready for the dirt track, I can't wait. Anyway I thought this sort of thing would be of interest to most you out there.

I did start it up before taking it apart and most cylinders were happy to play, after half a can of start ya basted. Rust holes in fuel tank, carbies full of shit. Lovin it.

Yep I'm going with a mate, camping the night. We were going to get my 1992 GSX-R750 set up for it but as you say, no Superbike/Supersport bikes allowed. I'll probably buy something to run at a future Dust Hustle.

Was talking to Hughan from Ellaspede and he said the clutchless class (up to 150cc) is the most fun of the four classes running, so I'll probably go with that - postie bike is probably the easiest way to go.

Ha, talk about last minute! Love your work Craig. Looking forward to checking it all out at the event.

Are you putting nobbies on it?

Hey Phantom will keep an eye out for ya, there's a lot members I haven't met yet.
Yeah Si, last minute and seamed like a good idea at the time, seem to go hand in hand.
Hey Terry, Mono hooked me up, big thanks to Motorcycle Tyre Warehouse. No nobbies allowed but we got as close as we could.

I've cleaned the carbies out, done the plugs, oil and filter got the headers back on, just need to adapt a muffler, spray some rattle can black around the place and hope I've managed to seal the rust holes in the tank, oh and get some brakes working up front.

I can see it's not a full blown nobbie, but what is it?

Yeah I think Craig is pushing the envelope there :D

The tyre is a TRACTIONATOR Adventure, you have to say it out loud.

Gix11
05-04-2017, 08:55 AM
Have run the "Tractionator" idea past the officials? Might want to throw in a spare set and something to change 'em with, just in case!?

craig
05-04-2017, 08:27 PM
Got the go ahead on the tyre, you had me worried so I set them a pic and all good.
I'm gunna be there about 4pm on the Friday if anyone is wanting to camp out, I don't know what the place is like but will be there in the truck with plenty of room to string up a tarp or swags.

I'll PM you between now and then. My mate and I are sorted for camping, just not sure when we'll front up yet.

You coming Si? Not far from you.

Seems to run ok just having some brake issues. You don't realise how fast your going until you try and stop.

We should be heading there on the Sunday at this stage

craig

No jumps, my bones couldn't handle it.
Hey Jules, it's a Saturday event with party Saturday night, nothing but hangovers on Sunday.

Should have read it better. Thought it was a 2 day event

Ah well, we'll see how the weekend goes

Loving the bikes and love for this event. You need some more rust on that chain Craig.
Oh, and welcome Limiter. I'll keep an eye out for the big single.

You need some more rust on that chain Craig.
That's after I cleaned it. You know rust absorbs chain lube better than shiny metal.

Here's our man - I tried to get pics of him in action, none really worked. But pretty sure at least one of the vids I took captured Craig's efforts - you knew when he was on-track, there were only a couple of inline-4s out there. And Craig was the only one roosting from corner to corner (and on the dragstrip the roost didn't let up until he crossed the line).

I'll sort the vids out later.

Top work mate! and great to meet you and your crew. Thanks for welding my camping neighbour Darren's exhaust. I'm still blown away by your bike transport system...

Si, Craig told me you were there but I was busy drinking, that doesn't leave a lot of time for looking... next time mate :)

Regards, Murray

Terrific photos, Si.

That guy on the Harley #66 was insane... he was jumping a tabletop jump in the last session, getting ridiculous air and shaking the ground when he touched down. Sure enough he broke it, but not badly enough that he couldn't ride it back to his camp. Respect!

Got there Friday arvo to set up camp. Made a cradle to lift the bike and gear on and off the truck.
Sat up most the night drinking rum and beer, by 3.30 am I was spewing dinner, must have been something I ate, not a good start to Saturdays riding. All in all a top weekend, the tracks got pretty rough quick and on a heavy road bike my backs feeling it now.
There were a few spills on the tracks but people just picked them selves up kept going, different story on the drag strip, girl unconscious, BMW trashed and a rigid shovel cartwheeled and took out the guy in the next lane who later went to hospital for a brain scan.

Caught you doing a drag run as I went back to the car Craig. Fuck you were flying! Everybody stopped to watch that one!

I reckon the drag strip will be canned next time due to the carnage.
