So my uncle called me up the other day to see if i wanted to let me know he was having a shed clean out and he thought i might want some stuff... he was right.

here's the main little toy that i got off him:

Plans with this are to swap it to a 3 phase motor controlled by a little 1-3phase thingo (also from my uncle) that lets you control RPM and ramp up/down speed and whatnot. Convert a better top slide, with 4 position tool post to fit (again, from my uncle) and then add some sort of scales on the main and cross slides (they have nothing right now.) I would like to add a DRO but they seem to be a bit pricey at this stage.

I also got a dial indicator, some 2 and 3 jaw pullers and an Oxy set.

All in all a pretty good little haul i think :D

Oh and a 3.23 XY LSD. putting the center in a disk brake rear end i have already for my ute.

Re: scales on the slides - get some cheap digital calipers and bolt them in place to get a nice digital readout :D

XY LSD - I assume it's a borgy? if so - just a heads up, they're only 24 spline and 2 pinion - I grenaded one badly and twisted up both axles (tore the splinjes out of the cone clutches) a few years back without trying to hard...

Thanks for the tips guys.

The LSD is just a borgy and it's 25 spline. I doubt i'll break it. i've only got a pretty much stock 351... i might break it when i put the mild cam and the done up c9 with 2500 stally though :P

Not to worry, it's still an upgrade from the 2.92 single spinner drum brake rear in there right now (i've put the 3.23 lsd center into an XC length disk diff)

Interesting - I might go have a look-see. I was just going to use the calipers for the compound, and was going to get a proper DRO out of ebay/china/alibaba for the main feed and cross head.
My compound head doesn't have a degree scale on it - are there any neat tricks out there for sorting that?

Bizzarly, the 3.23 LSD lasted less time than the 2.92 open wheeler I had before it... but with the auto you'll definitly make it live longer than with a toploader. Just keep an eye out for putting one rear wheel across a manhole cover under power - the slip/grip shock load is what killed mine in the end.

Lol. I'll watch out for that. I don't think my. 275 rear tyres will help its life span :-P

The cheap ones can be had up to 600 or 900 I think , they can be used alone (read out on scale)
But they also sell a little hub all up under 250 for 3 ax and hub.
What type compound head you talking about ?

id take the compound off and mark a circle and divide up into common angles
put compound back on work with dial indrcater till compond parral then just put a center pop on it where you have marked 0.
