SO, heading in a different direction with my kat, going to offer up my 1370 kit.
The barrels have all their fins, and have been fitted with GSXr 1127 sleeves, bored to suit a set of 5,000km old 2nd gen Busa pistons.
All that needs to be done is deck the barrels to suit the reduced height of the pistons - from memory it needs 3.2mm skimmed off the barrels. Oh yeah, your cases will need to be opened up to accept the sleeves. I've also got a head and base gaskets to suit
Chasing $800 - which is about what the machining and gaskets cost me from memory...
I dunno how many guys here are still messing with old air cooled stuff, but thought I'd chuck it up anyway.

Pickup in Briz preferred, but can box it up and post.

Hmmm, fuck I've installed an MTC 1260 kit into my GSX so your timing stinks but I'm sure some of the lads on the dormant Katana thread might be interested

Bollocks, put this in the wrong section...
Does the MTC 1260 use the standard block?

Yeah it does use the standard block but still needs the crankcases mouths opened up.

Maybe at some point i'll chase big bore bits again, but for the moment, the 1370 kit is up for sale...

Lol - what's wrong with 1370cc?
I'm only selling it because I want to stay under 1300cc because I'm contemplating going racing at some point in the future...

Will take part trades for 38mm flatslides, an Oil cooled GSXR1100 clutch (inner/outer hubs and plates) in good nick, Katana gauge pod in good nick, GSX/Kat Marzocchis or WPs or the like (not Koni/ikon)...

Mmmm. Were the barrels you used the 1074cc or 1135cc barrels?

This conversion was new to me,
but a local guy in Brissy has a Kat with the same spec.
Bloody picks its feet up!

I wonder how many folk are now looking for
barrels, pistons, liners.... etc.

Yeah, I started collecting bits at the same time as Reg, but life got in the way, and 3 years later I'm changing directions...
anyway.

I'm only missing the liners and machine work.

Seen Reg a couple of times recently.
Not the flashest looking Kat but can't fault the performance.

External oil lines, billet clutch basket, gsx 750 oil pump gears and a decent sized oil cooler would be pretty much essential I reckon. A ported head with big valves would make the most of those fuckin big holes as well :)

GammaBoy

No need for external oil lines, decent oil cooler yes, but no need ot get too fancy - Megareg's bike with the same setup is running stock clutch and a ported head, don't think he's gone to 750 oil pump gears either. From memory he's running 40mm Slingshot CVs too, but was running them on the stock bore motor he had before the 1360.

Fair enough I'd probably consider external oil lines and billet clutch basket as insurance and maybe not neccessity.Having said that though I burst my standard clutch basket open when I was running an 1168 ported head and big valve set up

so too big for 34mm flatslides i take it

It will run fine on the 34s not as much hp as maybe bigger but thats only top end
its the extra grunt that is nice with big blocks imo

Welded Crank, Straight cut gears, decent clutch , Alternator that stays together.............fuck that just shove a Gixxer in you'll never look back.

i had a Kat (GSX) with all the business and was always fixing stuff , built an 1127 (1216) in '96 and have never had the cylinder head off since or failed me once.

And yet, there are plenty of people raping GSX motors without any of those issues. Go figure.
With 34s it'll keep the peak power down, which will help, but fuck it'd have some bottom end and midrange.

C'mon people these old motors are just crying out for the big bore treatment. It's a shame that none of you lot with dormant Katana's aren't picking these up. I'd have grabbed them myself if I hadn't already sorted my motor.
