After umming and ahhing for too long, I decided that I couldn't bring myself to chop up my GSXR to make a real streetfighter.

So I went to the auctions with the intention of bidding on either the 03 or 05 Gixxer thous they had. Then I saw the two ZX10Rs they had and added them to my bid list.

Anyway to cut a long story short I came home with this

http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/upload/43029968990685.JPG

It's an 04 model with only 18000ks on the clock and as a bonus it starts and runs.

it'll make all the electrical shit HEAPS easier later on

can't start them at the auctions, so just got to look carefully and hope it's ok.

quote:hows the headstock area of the chassis? i think i have seen some of those with the fronts ripped off [:O]

It looks fine, pretty sure it had just been layed over without hitting anything. The 06 ZX10 went for 3500 but it had taken a big hit on the forks so maybe dodgy

quote:and you forgot to tell us how much!

5100 +6.6% comission[V] so a bit under $5500 altogether.

quote:so u steered clear of the leb?

I emailed him and offered 5500 for that 03GSXR but he said he needed more than 6 for it. Then yesterday he emailed me back and said lets do a deal....toooo late. Not a bad buy at 5500, considering the one at the auctions went for 6000 + 6.6%

I nearly came home with the 05 GSXR1000 too but stopped bidding at 3900 (it went for 4000)

It had a hole rubbed through the tank, the subframe was twisted and one of the fork inners was gouged, so you'd need another fork and tank, but that wouldn't cost more than a 1000 or so.

I'm going to go back and get a trackbike from there one day

Hi Large.. Nice ride with low klm's.:D Should look great fightered.
Cant wait to see what you do with it.

Question:-
Is it classed as a repairable writeoff? If so what has to be done before you can get it re-registered? Engineers report, etc!
I'd like to do the same but I've heard it's getting very hard to re-register crashed bikes:(

Thanks for any info...

In Vic it's a V.I.V. (vehicle identification verification) certificate, I had to get one for the GS. Cost around $400 - $500 and took 6 hours. It's basicly to make sure the bike/car is not a stolen re-plated item.

Hey ICE, I know we were talking about this last time we met and I know you went to Dodgy Dougs for your VIV, but are they meant to check the frame and parts for structural soundness or is it just a rebirthing check?????

The way I've been told;

1 you need a blue slip to check for roadworthy - lights brakes etc. $40
2 you need an engineers report if it's modified past "owners approved" stage. maybe $700
3 you need the viv or id check to make sure you haven't changed the engine or chassis numbers $450
4 Greenslip $400
5 rego $100
6 stampduty ~$130

Looks like I gotta stop drinking for a week:D

Carrozzeria sells wheels in unmatched sets

Yeah that's the worst case scenario, but I was talking to a guy who sells Harley stuff (300 wide arses etc) asnd he reckons the inspections have all gone up heaps.

they will want to look at the swinger, suspension, headlight, subframe at least for it to all be legal

and its gotta have matching wheels

you get a rear sprocket when you buy a set, to your spec's (chain size/teeth),and they can provide galfer wave discs, but that costs extra. I bought a set earlier this year, really good quality. It took longer to get them through customs than it did for them to get from the U.S. to sydney. And although they cost a bit, they're a hell of a lot cheaper than the $3500-$4000 to get marchesini/marvic/dymags etc. Get ben to make disc centres to match the spoke pattern, large, they look great:D

I really hope not, but I couldn't find any damage to the frame, steering or suspension. I even had a professional (wrecker) help check it out...once we decided we wouldn't bid on each other's bikes.

If they do bring this rule in, You'd think they'd have to have a "grandfather clause" to cover blokes who've bough bikes in the past year or two?

i serious doubt they would :(

the thing is large that
a) u dont know the original dimensions so its hard to check if its moved
b) crack testing wont work cos its painted, and u cant to magnetic partical testing on aluminium

but unless u strip the powdercoat there isnt much u can do

im more talking about the say if loads from the wheels hitting something had twisted or bent the frame

but i think if the forks and swingarm are straight it wouldnt be something you need to worry about

most welds should be ok if there arent visible surface cracks

looking at the pics i would be more worried about the subframe
but you'll be redo-ing that so...

The subframe hasn't got a mark on it, but I'm going to chop the last 10" or so off to fit my seat unit.

Dropping it off tomorrow to get the swinger done. Been doing a few drawings/plans for the one off bits. The idea is to get it down to Ben's tomorrow then use the space to put the GSXR back to stock and sell it. Not sure how that'll work with my fucked knee[V]

Found a colour for it too - Passion Red (or Red Passion) a Holden colour. Changes from dark burgundy in shadow to bright metallic dark red in the sun.

I got them from a place in the US that I wont name because they're not supposed to sell to AUS or Europe and could lose their selling rights. Luckily there's a way around that so if anyone wants to know, pm me;)
